T1 The Village of Hommlet (1e)
by Cameron

pixel_trans.gif T1 The Village of Hommlet (1e) The adventure is fine... However, the digital scan has not been cleaned up. Thus the map looks, disgusting, compared to the (crisp) remainder of the module. No effort to boost the faded blue colour or digitally clean up the detritus. Or even notice the mistake on the front cover triangle. Clue: letters O & D. Rose tinted nostalgia but needs a bit of an edit (or clean).

Eldritch: An Otherworldly RPG
by Janis

pixel_trans.gif Eldritch: An Otherworldly RPG I played a Session with this RPG and i have to say it was really fun. You feel very free in character creation, while it is not complicated at all to do. The D6 system and the ability to push allows the player to have more agency in what they want to. I really like both the Motivation and Darkness feature. Giving a bonus to you when you act towards your Motivation makes playing the character the way you want way more rewarding and the ability to reveal your Darkness to get an auto success is another way to get agency, but with the downside of the negative effects of your darkness. So, for your Darkness you need to decide how badly you want to succeed at the check and how long you really have before the DM spends their doom to reveal the Darkness for you without this benefit. There are lots more to talk about, but these were my favorite features ...

Barrowmaze Complete 10th Anniversary (Monochrome Cover)

pixel_trans.gif Barrowmaze Complete 10th Anniversary (Monochrome Cover) Speaking as a DM this has been the core "thing" of the longest-running and most successful tabletop campaign I've been involved with. The book excels in clean/easy presentation for both the main town of Helix and the dungeon itself--those elements have been astonishingly easy to run. The dungeon is surprisingly varied for as uniform as it appears on the surface. Great art throughout. I find the "story" of the module very thin and the pantheon details are quite weak, but it's malleable and easy enough for a DM to flesh out. Small random encounter tables, particularly on the barrow moor, are a bigger issue to me. I find the complete lack of detail given to the nearby "big city" Ironguard Motte pretty nonsensical. As a physical product, especially an "anniversary special edition," I think a fold-out poster map of the Barrowmaze would have made a lot of sense....

One Page Dungeon Compendium: 2023 Edition
by A customer

pixel_trans.gif One Page Dungeon Compendium: 2023 Edition The One Page Dungeon thing is certainly a noble effort. That being said out of 100+ entries, as a DM who prefers kind of low-fantasy minimally-gonzo stuff I could count on one hand the dungeons that I might ever actually use. "And Still They Rise" means anyone adhering to the theme is doing undead, baking, or both. Lots of (in my opinion) overly precious baking-zombie-themed pages in here. Some rarer stuff playing with "elevation" that might be kind of fun. Lair of the Lamentable Leech Lord (the very first entry) slotted PERFECTLY into my campaign and we had a great time with it....

QUEERZ! Adventure Bundle [BUNDLE]
by JL
Publisher: Son of Oak Game Studio
Date Added: 06/19/2024 23:14:32
pixel_trans.gif QUEERZ! Adventure Bundle [BUNDLE] First, the game. It's a variation of the City of Mists game. What makes this game different from any superhero game I have played is its approach to overcoming intolerance in lieu of the usual hack-n-slash, beat-em-up games. Intolerance is treated as a sort of infectious substance. After a showdown, players will go into the minds of the villains to try and conquer the fear that is fueling their intolerance. In short, villains are treated as victims needing help. It's a little hard to wrap your head around as to how that actually works in play. I was worried it was going to be too over-the-top with the kitschy stuff. It is pretty ramped up, but you can easily tone some of that down. I say this because at first glance it looks like it is geared towards a younger audience. The grittiness of City of Mists ends up getting replaced with some tense real-world themes. For anyone who is geeky or queer, those who have been ostracized for it, may find some of the issues intense. There are plenty...

Warped Beyond Recognition

pixel_trans.gif Warped Beyond Recognition Phenomenal. This module + the Mothership system has inspired and engaged 8 friends to get into TTRPGs and held their breath every step of the way. It would be worth the price tag even if there was only a fraction of the amazing ideas present in this module. Fascinating NPCs, tons of Warden advice, layer upon layer of clues for players to unravel, gripping violent encounters, multiple enthralling ways to kick-start a campaign. Then you throw on top a full set of maps, aesthetically spot on art printouts, a fully original soundtrack, AND an app that live mixes atmospheric ambient noise with the soundtrack depending on where the party is located!?!?!? Wild. Thanks so much Quadra. ...

pixel_trans.gif Loot the Body Love this book! I have both a pdf and hardcopy for use in the games I run and I gifted one to my DM who is getting a lot use from it in his campaign. The tables are easy to use and filled with interesting or entertaing items. It definitely makes the end of combat fun, as I can answer the question "what do we find on the bodies?" with an endless variety of things!

The Chronicles of Future Earth Player's Guide
by tony
Publisher: Typhon Games
Date Added: 06/19/2024 20:05:40
pixel_trans.gif The Chronicles of Future Earth Player's Guide The first out of three books to complete the rules and setting for "the Chronicles of Future Earth." I question the wisdom in only releasing one of three needed books, as the ‘player’s guide’ isn’t a complete RPG by itself. The ‘players guide’ is a great and beautiful tomb of a book and it allows you to create player characters, but only provides the bare minimum for the GM to run adventures, and that extends to both setting and rules. The section on combat and mundane skills and their use in the game provides enough detail, but there is little to nothing on protagonists or antagonists. The section on magic is surprisingly good and really elevates the fantasy part, but yet with many of its sections left barebones with references to the two other books. These issues are hopefully addressed and covered in the two next coming books, but at the time of this review the rules and setting are incomplete. The ‘quick start’ version with the included adventure Swallower of Souls provides so...

The Breach
by SCOTT
Publisher: Need Games
Date Added: 06/19/2024 18:49:27
pixel_trans.gif The Breach I'll be perfectly frank. Read the description off the back of the book. If that sounds interesting, then go and write up a backstory and flesh out the setting of the Bastion. If you don't feel like doing the legwork...well, tough, because buying the book isn't going to do anything for you. Somehow they managed to present the entire setting, from the oppressive Bastion to what you will encounter within the Breaches, in the broadest and vaguest context possible. The game seems to think this is a feature, not a bug. I disagree. I look to game settings to fill in important details I don't necessarily have time to build into my game myself. A setting that does no world building of its own beyond the broadest and vaguest of terms is a setting that is failing my expectations. I will always prefer specificity that I can tweak or remove as needed over vaguaries I have to fill in. Otherwise I see no purpose in buying a setting book over just saving my money and homebrewing the game's history. Re...
