All right, mages - just where did you learn your spell casting?
Some may well have learned the art apprenticed to an existing wizard, but - particularly in high fantasy where magic is commonplace - the concept of going to 'mage school' may well have developed. Some commercially-available settings already have such institutions, but if yours does not, this is well worth a look.
It opens by introducing a quite substantial establishment, the Arcanum College of Wizardry, which caters for some 500 students at various stages of their training. It comes over as somewhere between a high school and a university in tone, although neither the age of the students nor entrance requirements are specified. Undergraduate tuition is based around four Houses, each with their own particular style and magical specialty and even a complete archetype to go with it... where you study certainly leaves its mark.
As befits a place in which magic is studied seriously, several new spells have been developed here. In addition, if you are using Traits in your game, there are some school-specific ones to choose from... including 'College Dropout' for those who don't find the place suitable (or who get kicked out!).
Overall, if you want this kind of large-scale magical education to be available in your setting, this provides a good groundwork - yet is general enough to leave you scope to customise it to suit your own requirements.
