If you are already a fan of the Cybergeneration that I shouldn't have to tell you how great it is to finally be able to have a pdf. version of this book. If you have never heard of CyberGeneration 2027 than let me fill you in. CyberGeneration 2027 (or CyberGen for short) is a spinoff of the Cyberpunk 2020 RPG. Originally this was supposed to be then next chapter of the Cyberpunk Universe but recently R. Talsorian has declared that CyberGen is an alternate timeline to make way for the release of Cyberpunk 2030 RPG. With that clarified CyberGen is an interesting twist on the cyberpunk setting. Instead of playing amoral mercenaries for hire who are cramed full of as much cyberware as thier bodies can handle and are better armed than most third world countries, you play as thier children. Despite the best efforts of the Cyberpunks they were not able to stop the inevitable corporate take-over of the United States of America. The newly formed Incorporated States of America gave the Cyberpunks an ultimadum, surender peacefully or else, so many of them laid down thier arms and went to work for the corps. Now it is up to the children to take up the spirit of rebellion and fight the power. Now add the mysterious Carbon Plauge into the mix, A non-virus that is fatal to anyone over the age of 18 but has the ability to mutate children into powerful CyberEvolved, and you have a truly unique roleplaying experiance.
That being said this game is not for everyone. It can be alittle hard to get into the spirit of playing teenagers and not everyone will be thrilled at the idea. Since your body is still growing you can't get cyberware and while you can find some guns on the black market it is not going to be anything close to what your enemies are carrying (i.e. no rocket launchers). Heck your character may not even be old enough to drive a car. This is a game that rewards the clever player who uses thier limitations as an advantage. I will never forget a session I played in where we were able to sneak into a restricted corporate facility just by "having to go to the bathroom". One aspect I especially like is that there is a short premade adventure in the book that actually takes you through character creation. It is a great way to introduce a whole group to the game at once.
While I am a huge fan of the game I was a little let down by the pdf. It is simply a page by page scan of the book, which is to be expected, but the pages appear to be scaned at a slight angle. On the plus side all of the text has been scanned so it can be copied, pasted, and searched. I would have liked to see some decent bookmarking but the few they did add don't really make any sense. Still this is such an old product I am happy they even took the time to scan it.
