DCC is a great stand-alone RPG, aswell as a treasure trove of mechanical and thematic inspiration. Their warrior special move - Mighty Deeds of Arms is mechanically elegant, and inspiring, and the character funnel is an RPG experience everyone should try at least once. I think this game is great, and you should definitely buy it.
That said, if you use everything as written, you are going to be searching the book repeatedly for the right roll table for the spell, crit, or fumble that hascome up in the game - and despite all those things being fun and great, their implimentation at the table is a little clunky. There are also a couple cringe-worthy bits of colonial thinking, especially in the monster section, which occasionally equates hunter-gatherer human beings to less-than-human "primitives". Is that gross? Yes. Does it ruin the entire book? No. Buy the book, write a review, and encourage them to do better in the future.
