I purchased this for my 12 year old, who runs Faery's Tale, and she will be very happy with it. It's definitely usable and has at least a dollar's worth of information in map, hooks, twists, and NPC descriptions. The product could be a little better cleaned up: they appear to mix up "glade" and "grove" on the map key, and there are a few grammar errors and inconsistencies (they use both "pixy" and "pixie). I don't think these errors will distract from the use of the product, I just couldn't help noticing it myself.

It is generally pretty hard to pull off a truly "generic" RPG scenario, as the underlying system often shows through somewhere. That happens with Toys For the Sandbox: Fairy Glade. It's not a bad thing, as it obviously draws upon the OGL/D&D as it's base. There are no stats, but trust me, it's roots are in D&D (and not 4e, but I'm sure it would work there too).

That's not what you want to know. What you want to know is if you get value for your 99 cents. The answer is, yes, you do. A map, 6 plot hooks, each with 3 possible twists, allows you to tailor this in the direction you want it to go. It IS perfect for throwing in front of your party as they are exploring YOUR sandbox (and we all know how important the sandbox is in the OSR).

Color me impressed. I wasn't expecting much in 4 pages, and what I got is a lot, and it's good.

I think Occult Moon's "Toys for the Sandbox" series is a good idea. At .99, this 4- page pdf (which includes the cover) provides a nice, system-neutral, scenario to drop into an ongoing campaign. Plot hooks are provided for an aspiring GM to develop as he or she sees fit. Main NPCs are also given some personality and fleshed out somewhat, although not with any stats.

As a GM with a bit of experience, I could see myself using this as a mini-encounter distraction for players. The format provided can also provide inspiration for a GM to develop their own encounters. Worth every 99 penny!
