This is was our first extended Savage Worlds Deluxe adventure; we've played other systems and other campaigns before, and a couple of SWD one-pagers. This was a lot of fun with exposure to many of the rules: mass battles, chases, and magic. PCs go from one set piece to another but each is interesting and the epic builds. I wish it had some scenes that were solved with thieving, fast-talking, puzzles, or other alternatives to combat, but my group loved it as it was. They loved the building sense of accomplishment as the story and mystery unfolded.

Technically, I wish the book had included a map and at the mention of any creature or NPC, the page number where they are described. The pages have a light gray background that didn't interfere with printing or legibility but were a waste of ink and printing time.

I wish it were paired with paper minis for optional purchase.

I recommend this to anyone who wants a straight-up swords and sorcery "epic movie" adventure.

A fairly solid adventure, Citadel does have the potential for coming off the rails and having a lot of continuity problems early in the adventure. It is tightly paced, so a grevious injury that a player might want to use rest to heal can present problems that wreck the timeline. The party can also make some role play decisions that might knock the plot off course.

I was especially careful to make the forced companions almost invisible or helpful so they didn't feel as though they were hindered or burdened. I also worked hard to keep the pace of the adventure very high, so that the party is more worried about the environment and immediate threats than to stop and consider the downsides of traveling with NPCs.

I would suggest that a GM be prepared to provide unexpected sources of healing. I've done this once and it keeps the adventure moving at points where it really should not bog down.

Citadel of the winged Gods is the second adventure of B&B (for all that ask himself why Skinner of.... isnt the second adventure-Skinner is only a savage tale, no adventure). It has a large battle in the beginning, a encounter with a strange human that ask for help finding home, great enemys, deep jungle, poisonous snakes and so on. It has the Sword and sorcery feeling all over it. I havnt plaed it yet, but it sounds like a lot of fun. Like most buyable adventure there are some rails visible. Especially the large battles in the beginning are well executed but somewhat meianingless, and the second battle is destinied to fail, so the heroes have to flee. The mysterious human is fatigued, but a mighty NPC. Something that is hard to do without overshadowing the PC, but in the two main fights he has some "magic" to do so he could stay in the background. In a sword and sorcery setting with rare magic this could work really fine. And he has some memorable scenes in the finale.

This avdenture is really fun, if you like sword and sorcery you should buy it.
