Classic Traveller Orientation Pack
Publisher: Game Designers' Workshop (GDW)
by Richard C. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 12/08/2015 09:32:24

Truth be told, I purchased this to get the 134-page Traveller Timeline which pulls together all significant events from the time of the ancients to the end of the Fifth Frontier War/Golden Age (1115). This is a good treatment of the timeline because Classic Traveller focuses on the "Golden Age" setting. McKinney pulls together data from a wide variety of sources (from the original Library Data to Dragon Magazine and finally to supplements from publishers like SJ Games).

The timeline is a fascinating resource and is well worth the price. All events are listed by date (day-XXXX Imperial Year), description and source in a kind of modified MLA format (Source Publication, Publisher, Date, Page.)

This collection has all the great Classic Traveller materials together in one place. Unfortunately, it does not have a Guide to the Judges Guild and GameLords Traveller Resources.

Can't say enough nice things about this short magazine/supplement. It is interesting, well-written and further established my interest in the "new" rule system for Traveller5. I only wish there were more of them. It's really nice to see some fresh new material for Traveller.

excellent product. Covers all major rules of the game. The included adventure, "Memory Alpha is a very nice touch. Some pages need to be printed seperately or two pages per sheet landscaped in order to view them comfortably. Rules sheets can be printed individually and come out fine. Wonderful for the money. Wish they had an option for a hard copy. Over all, this is a good product for those new to Traveller or just new to Marc Miller's Traveller (T4)

T5 Traveller5 Core Rules 3-Book Set
Publisher: Game Designers' Workshop (GDW)
by Richard C. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 06/20/2015 19:53:27

I really like this edition/revision. It is quite an improvement over the original CDROM and book. All errata (of which there were 10 pages) is now included in the text and made a part of the main text (no underlining, pasting or redlining necessary). In addition, the text is much easier to search and/or make searchable and editable. A new index has been added that is vastly more detailed than the one provided by R. Eaglestone on the official Traveller forums. There is also more artwork. Marc and the team did an excellent job with this. I look forward to the release of the revised CDROM and new hardcopy.

I don't like how the book has been renamed "Traveller5.09" ("The 5.09 version of Traveller"). It seems kind of clumsy and, anyway, as a point release it should be named 5.1. 5.09 suggests something that is still in alpha stage (still being tested and not ready for everyday use). That's all computer terminology but I feel much better about this book than I did about the original pre-release text and the eventual first finished edition (FFE-050 and FFE-300).

If you don't have a copy, here's a great opportunity to get it! Thanks.

This publication is an excellent example of how a game supplement should be made. The typesetting and layout are flawless. Facts and figures are correct and easy to read. Information regarding the "new" Aminidii race is very good and include charts for generating words and sentences The images are very plain but well done. Basically, this supplement brings Traveller5 to a level where it is accessible to everyone wanting to play the game. Additional material explains sophont species generation in an accessible way. The price is great if you consider that the format of the supplement is very similar to the old JTAS booklets from back in the 80's.

SciFi20 Combat Manual
Publisher: QuikLink Interactive, Inc.
by Richard C. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 02/11/2013 22:54:20

Roger L. says it best:

This article discusses the two source books "Referees Screen" and "Combat Manual" for SciFi20, the D20 OGL version of Traveller.

Appearance Again, we find again the already familiar layout of the previously-discussed books. The cover of Combat Manual, as well as facing the player side of the game screen manager for self-printing are again the artist Bryan Gibson. The front artwork is colored.

I particularly like the scene in comic-like compound moment of SL screen that shows a group of 4 when exploring a jungle planet.

The content is again in black / white, broken up by artwork and tables, everything as it was, so to speak.

The hard facts:

• SciFi 20 referees Screen • Format: pdf • Pages: 18 • Publisher: QuikLink Interactive, Inc. • Language: English • Price: U.S. $ 5 (approx. EUR 3.60) • Link partner: http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product_info.php?products_- id = 96687 & affiliate_id = 260512

• SciFi20 Combat Manual • Format: pdf • Pages: 45 • Publisher: QuikLink Interactive, Inc. • Language: English • Price: U.S. $ 6 (approx. 4.35 EUR) • Link partner: http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product_info.php?products_- id = 96559 & affiliate_id = 260512

Content

The referees screen we find exactly what we would expect. Tables for almost any situation. The screen is divided SL print yourself and in 4 areas. The front of the SL screen is decorated with a scene in the input text named, the back is filled with tables.

Since the amount of tables in SciFi20 not be low, there is also desweiten 4 pages, which are intended as player handouts like 4 pages to the team captain. These are the so-called reference cards. Information that might miss a SL, it finds / her in the reference cards.

About weapon codes, armor types, load weight, purchasable goods, healing times, moving ranges, impact of hazardous weather to attribute lists for untrained skills, sensor ranges, size of an unknown planet, and more, I found everything what I could imagine me as SL use.

The Combat Manual provides as yet more content, though more in text form. As its name suggests, it is about the fight, not only, but mostly. Discussed in this book are the rules for the battle between nature, as is so attacked, is dodged as the weapons and attacks which cause the modifications. Furthermore, we can also read what influences have injuries, as they are interpreted and how the newspapers are to recovery. Short trips to the damage to property but also to specific maneuvers are served us well.

The dice system in itself is not my Präferiertes, so I would not, for reasons of objective review to respond. But the fact is that the collection contains enough ideas for lockers to be used, but may also free enough to be able to incorporate spontaneous player ideas.

The second chapter of the book revolves around the vehicle and space combat. Typically, not all crew members of a ship to operate the weapons, so I'm even curious as SciFi20 solves the problem that half the player is idle.

In short: Not bad. Of course, a ship not only gunners, but also sensor specialists, Astrogatoren, the scientific crew and so on. Each of these teams can take special actions in combat, which determine the overall outcome of the battle. One ship is natural. Hitbox (engines, Sickbay, bridge, etc) and then hit act on different sections of some entirely different I believe that this system is really good and I will leave it for my own science fiction round the system Trinity influence. Nevertheless, and this is in many combat systems greater order so often, it will be slow and by its nature already no rush can break out at the table.

Value for money 3.60 EUR and 4.35 EUR for books that are thick, but also immediately have described the content, quite appropriate. Less is probably not really, after all, authors and artists have yet to be paid, even if you have only a few megabytes on your hard drive and not a piece of paper in his hands.

Conclusion The SL Shield collection is just the expected - table next table, arranged not always make sense, but massively helpful in SL everyday. The Combat Manual provides especially when vehicle combat some fresh ideas, including but otherwise exactly the content you want to get to. Maneuvers, combat rules, and whatever else belongs to

Bonus / DLC Is a reading test for referees screen does not exist.

SciFi20 Player's Guidebook
Publisher: QuikLink Interactive, Inc.
by Richard C. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 02/11/2013 22:25:54

This is Hunter Gordon's revision of chapters 1-7 and 11 of the Traveller's Handbook. As with the other books in this series, there is little difference between the original 2001 text and this updated version from 2011. In any case, it is absolutely fabulous and a must for everyone interested in playing or learning about a sci/fi modern setting for the d20 game system.

Roger L. said it all (google translator):

I see on my screen for a short time, the player Guidebook for SciFi20. This system is nothing more than a pre-drilled on the basis of the original Traveller D20 rules. The Players Guide Book, interested players all the details for creating a character.

Appearance

The present copy of my book is the source PDF file. The cover of Bryan Gibson is a good handmade Science Fiction Art and shows floating soldiers in an urban environment.

The interior of the source book is purely black / white, but has a clean record and pressure and is thus easy to read. However, the institute does not seem to have been quite clean, as there are points in the flow rate, where you just hooked and wondering what the author wants to tell the reader. Repeatedly loosens artwork to the lyrics, which are in turn broken up by tables also list. The tables are clear and easy to understand thanks to explanatory words.

With 128 pages, it is not too extensive.

The hard facts:

• Format: pdf • Publisher: QuikLink Interactive, Inc. • Language: English • Price: U.S. $ 6 (approx. 4.35 EUR)

Content

As already indicated, it is in the content of the book to the rules of character creation. Since we are talking of D20, we're talking about in this particular case of the quasi-D20 D & D 3.0, which of course had their little problems when it comes to the balancing of skills and feats. Feats are special abilities that made a class to something special and can pick up the character of the average citizen.

In addition to the rules for the creation of a role will focus on the first pages of the basic rules, as they are generally applicable to most situations in the game, taught.

When creating a new character, we choose not only a race (there are not only human), but also their home world. We will not find anything under the offered classes and worlds, the rules also brings us a kit, we build ourselves a race along with their planet.

Planet resulting from racial and specific career paths and training, on how we should. Also, depending on the choice we get access to specific skills. Next, select the class - and ready. Attributes can be bought or rolls of points, similar to what happens when skills and feats. The latter exists in stages increases.

If we decide to create a level 1 character, that was it. Now we can still spend money on equipment and are then ready.

However, we want to produce a more experienced champion, there are certain ways to control its development. The opportunities for career or education are proposed to us, we can read how this affects the age, knowledge, and social status. As is known from D & D 3, characters may take several classes gradually and have her in every class level. In addition, we still distinguish between core (core) classes and prestige classes. While the former is almost necessarily the original class must be, so the first one has proven that prestige classes are as it were the finishing touch of the experienced warriors of the universe.

About the sense or nonsense of multi-classes I want to write here is not, any more than on the impact on the balance of a game. Emphasized, at this point that supports this SciFi20 possibilities for character creation as well as development.

A detailed description of Skills and Feats adjoins the career options. The Sourcebook is terminated by an array of diversity of technological knowledge and levels of technology available in each stage.

Value for money

Finally, we get something for less than EUR 5 a very detailed description of the character creation. 128 pages of the knowledge presented in a very compressed and does not lose himself in in drivel. Who plays Traveller20, who has a good reference book in their hands, rather, on the screen.

Conclusion

SciFi20 is nothing but Traveller20. The book contains all the relevant rules are for the player and it also explains the basic rules again. The book is clearly structured, formulated clearly and relieved every game master to questions about the development and the development of characters.

SciFi20 Design Manual

by Richard C. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 02/11/2013 22:02:12

A previous reviewer said it all:

(though I believe this book deserves 5 very enthusiastic stars)

This article discusses the two source books "Design Manual" and "Planetology" for SciFi20, the D20 OGL version of Traveller.

Appearance The well-known layout of the Players Guide Book can be found here again. Again, the cover of Bryan Gibson and during Planetology is introduced by a very atmospheric drawing an alien planet, is the design manual, how could it be otherwise, seeing a blueprint of a production plan.

The content is again in black / white, broken up by artwork and tables, everything as it was, so to speak. I like it when books are all of a piece and the layout is known.

The hard facts:

• SciFi 20 Design Manual • Format: pdf • Pages: 56 • Publisher: QuikLink Interactive, Inc. • Language: English • Price: U.S. $ 8 (about 5.80 EUR)

• SciFi20 Planetology • Format: pdf • Pages: 32 • Publisher: QuikLink Interactive, Inc. • Language: English • Price: U.S. $ 8 (about 5.80 EUR)

Content

The Design Manual is a toolkit, not more no less. On the three areas of computers, vehicles (all types) and ultimately spaceships (from small shuttles to massive battleships) we find even after multiple Consider all you can play obstruct relevant material in a device.

When the computers are of course their computing capacity, intelligence, versatility and abstraction in the foreground, but also the unit's portability and the cost will not be forgotten. Significant here are the capabilities of the machine to be able to react to unforeseen situations in the program routines.

In the area of the vehicle, the book gives us some more tools at hand, because in addition to four-wheeled vehicles, the book covers ground as motorcycles, gliders, ATVs, aircraft, and Unterseebooote. Here are components such as chassis, drive, energy efficiency, but also armor, weaponry and comfort is important.

The largest chapter is ultimately about the design of spacecraft. Because there are so many possible applications, the authors endeavor to give the reader a most comprehensive tool kit at hand, which also includes various technology development stage. Electronics such as sensors, communications equipment, ship's AI, agility, hangars, yes or no, armament, propulsion, crew sections and and and and - the wealth of opportunity is huge.

The book is a typical sandbox, with the motto "Do what you want, here are the tools that the rest You're doing". Too bad I do not think that at least one design example is given. It is good that the whole round of construction nor the finances be ignored, because it is in the creation of ships you will find a separate paragraph on the financing of such a pot. Of course, affect all the values SciFi20 rules.

Planetology is more sandbox than the book before, because it aims to produce not only a stellar system, but also to individual planets. During the first few pages go to the solar system and the physics of stars, good deal three-fifths of the book a planet itself.

Not only land mass and atmosphere is offered as a way of creation, but also rotational axes inclination, so that the impact on the seasons and much more. Detail it is in the flora and fauna of the planet. What kind of life are there? Where is it found? How far is it developed? Did it perhaps cities, even spaceports? As the creatures are there rules? Democratic? Tyrannical? If so, how much? And what is the law? How far is the advance of technology? Are there trade routes? Galactic or intergalactic about even?

As a refresher, and to not scroll, we find under those options is a list of environmental influences on character - driven like fire, drowning, snowstorms et al are discussed in this chapter

The last, not small area of the book deals with the creatures that can appear on a planet. Food cycles, shape, habitat and behavior are highlighted, as well as the possible physical form of nature (along with their natural weaponry)

In short - all the tools you need in my opinion for a new world, there is in this book. Particularly advantageous, I feel that given the proximity to the rules SciFi20 weak, this book, then, to use for all sorts of science fiction systems.

Value for money Just under 6 EUR for the books I find that excellent tool boxes are not too expensive. But what I do not understand is, why? The player Guidebook, which is much more comprehensive with 128 pages, a little over 1 EUR cheaper Neither the layout, look, there are still differences.

Conclusion Both books are good collections to the creation of proprietary technology and worlds and thus excellent sandbox tools. I myself have been playing with the possibilities, and just when the planet came out copies, I would have never thought of me as yourself, but they are quite interesting.

The author obviously put a lot of effort into this product. The text is properly formatted with appropriate credit given to Far Future Enterprises, Mongoose Traveller and Wizard's OGL license. Just to use the Mongoose logo, this author had to request specific permission for it. I really felt that this work had more in common with a fantasy role-playing game than any version of Traveller. These are the scanned, non-OCR'ed copies of Paul Brunette's excellent TNE trilogy. The quality of writing is fantastic and the characters very believable. Brunette has an intimate knowledge of the Traveller game and demonstrates this by writing a very action-packed saga that is educational and very satisfying. For the price, this bundle is more than a bargain. The Backwards Mask and The Errand are the real jewels because they provide alternate endings to the series.
