I'm not rating the content with two stars. I'm rating the PDF. I own some print books from the Indiana Jones MB series and was curious to read more of the system and the World of Bloodshadows. I bought the bundle containing the MB, World of Bloodshadows, and the MB Companion.

Firstly, top marks for including the Master Deck PDF with the MB. Unfortunately, the resolution of the books is quite low. It displays ok on my iPad, but is impossible to read on my Kindle Paperwhite.

The books are all b&w so I thought the Kindle would be able to handle the PDFs with no problems. All the text appears scratchy and incomplete. Zooming in gives a slightly better image, but you are left viewing a quarter of a page at a time.

There is no OCR in the files and the contents page is not hot linked. It does clearly state on the product page that these were book scans, but I still have higher expectations from any OEF than what I have seen here. Hopefully the publishers will revisit the files and improve them for electronic viewing. As of right now, they are only really suited to viewing on a large screen or for printing.

Thank you for your feedback. The resolution is indeed print-quality, not low quality, so the issue appears to be with your devices not properly anti-aliasing line art.

Update: Tested viewing on my iPad Mini - looks great and easy to read. And while small, it\'s surprisingly legible on my iPhone.

I like it and I am going to try running a fantasy game with it. The system is flexible and seems suitable for many different styles of settings. The system does involve some table-lookup when using skills and in combat, but personally I like that stuff. Some things could probably have been a little simplified without loosing playexperience, but overall it looks pretty well balanced. The card-deck is not for me, but it is optional and if you dont like it you can just skip those parts of the rules. On the publishers homepage there is also conversion guidelines between Masterbook and OpenD6, which helps in making a lot of stuff available for use with Masterbook as rulesystem.

One drawback is that the scans are just images. You can not copy text or search for text. That is irritating but not a dealbreaker.

THE GOOD:

  • The MasterDeck is pretty cool.
  • The MasterDeck is included as a PDF, and available to order in print.
  • I dig the Advantages/Compensations system.
  • A comprehensive, step by step checklist (with worksheet) for making Special Effects.

THE BAD:

  • No character sheet.
  • An odd attribute scale.
  • No setting material, and no real examples of NPCs, monsters, etc.

Thanks for the review. Just a correction: the character sheet is on PDF pages 24 and 25, plus you can download a remastered sheet from the Precis Intermedia web site.
