These are great collections and I particularly love this option. Combined with the interactive PDF template that Fiery Dragon offers, you can use the individual JPEGs in this collection to print only the monsters you want in any number you want. Also, if you use MapTools or other programs that allow you to create individualized tokens to represent characters and monsters, this set is perfect to create counters that accurately represent the paragon tier monsters from Monster Manual 2 (4E). Your virtual tabletop D&D and fantasy games just got that much better. The art is high quality, the colors are bright, and I have used Fiery Dragon counters from day one for my enemies.

One of the latest in the Counter Collection series, Digital v3.0 Paragon includes a wealth of material to get the game going. At $8.00, the product is very reasonably priced. Why then a 4 star review instead of a 5 star review? The art. It's not that the art is bad, but rather that there is a lot of repetition and 'tricks' used to maximize the use of the art. This is evident from starting off with the archons, where the vareity in monster does not necessarily come from a unique piece of art, so much as a flipping and addition of a weapon. Others are very noticible due to the size of the illustration. The large firbolg's for instance, are so obviously flipped or given new weapons, it's like I'm playing with one of those online illustration programs and adding/subtracting weapons.

So why does the product get four stars? For one, there is an ease of use here. The product comes with several PDF files that allow you to load the images here onto the PDF for printing. The second is that the illustrations are full color. This makes them ease to see and use when mixing paper and metal miniatures. The third is that there is a wide variety of material here. Sure, there is repetition in terms of art, but it quickly allows you to print out customized figures and know which monster is where on the battlefield.

In short, if you are looking to expand your figure selection and can't wait for Wizards of the Coast to come out with those monsters you are looking for, the Counter Collection continues to provide solid value for the dollar.

I like reviewing art. I've probably said that before. But it's something I can do relatively competently, so I jump at the chance to review anything like this: Art that I can print and use in a game.

Ultimately, the quality is top-notch. Each counter will print out at high-definition 2x2 inches, but you could probably move it up to 4 without noticing (600x600, @ 300 dpi, so if you wanna print 'em at anything but 2, use the pdf's included, or be sure to specify a size).

The images are nice and high-detail. Ultimately, I feel that they'd look better than a lot of miniatures I've seen, and the ability to reprint one is always nice (admit it, everyone you know has pieces broken off of at least 1 mini).

Plus, the basic images are here, so if you wanted to use it for MapTool or similar (You might want to check on licensing, you may not be able to use these in any setting with streaming, even if it is to the same people who would see 'em on your table if they came over. The official site is lacking on terms of use, so it might be better to play it safe).

Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah, if you need some counters, the only thing about these that isn't absolutely perfect is the selection and price. You'd get a lot compared to some other products, but if you can't find what you're looking for here (and there is a broad selection, though not necessarily of what you'd need, so you may want to check the preview first and see if they have what you need). You can probably find something from your campaign, though, from Archon to Wolf, even if it requires a little improv.
