Signs of the Moon

A superbly presented and very humane piece of literature. Every page reflects the best possible digital care and attention to detail. They were made by a sculptor's hand and the content was written by the most creative of White Wolf's staff. The auspices were well documented in the Core Rulebook and referred to elsewhere, but Signs of the Moon gives them the proper exposure they deserve. The writers perform the chore of making them distinctive very well. Every auspice is very distinct, but all combined, they meld together to make a fine, liquid metal that can take many forms.

The hand written segments are a brilliant reminder of the now fading art of handwriting. They recreate very real accounts of werewolves. What is inscribed feels like living beings putting their thoughts to paper. The several forms of writing styles help make each of the notes in the narrative compelling in the sense that they create a menagerie of different personalities and perspectives. Each one introduces completely different circumstances and attitudes. No auspice is at all like, but they all come together to help form a whole. Not one of them is described the same way, creating a rich diversity of possibilities in the process.

It´s a pleasure to look and read in equal measure. For learning, it´s indispensable, for art, it´s a treasure.

An excellent product which offers a nice range of background information and setting ideas to help deepen character concepts, and even new gifts and powers to add flavor and make your character unique from others.

'Signs of the Moon' is destined to become one of the most dog-eared (no pun intended) books at your table as it clearly offers something for everyone.

Each of the Signs is given it's own chapter, which includes inventive props in the form of diaries, archeological translations, mission logs and files and other miscelanea to make the book more readable and capture as many different viewpoints as possible - tying in the with theme of different personalities and archetypes.

There are the standard host of new talens, gifts, Lodges and example NPCs, but most of these concepts can find a home in your chronicle. Highly reminiscent of the oWoD 'Book of Auspices' (which did Apocalypse a very good turn) this challenges and encourages Storytellers and players to move beyond the stereotypes and question the game and how it applies to their character - as an individual.

I'm going to need to re-read this a couple of times to digest it, but I have a feeling that this, like 'Auspices' is something I'll get value from for years - especially the final chapter, which is govern over to very practical storytelling advice (something White Wolf has always had a good handle on).

Excellent looking book/pdf. The artwork is terrific and it's an interesting read. The biggest problem is that it's very art intensive, including complete backgrounds which means it will cost a fortune to print it yourself. This is an ideal iPad book. The other downside is that it's a very expensive pdf - even at 227 pages I wouldn't expect the book to sell for too much more on Amazon.

A very solid addition (or end?) to the Werewolf/Forsaken line, which boasts a very thorough and entertaining look at each of the five auspices. Structually, it reads a bit like a slightly lighter version of the 5 clanbooks released for 'Vampire,' especially insofar as much of the material is presented as faux-primary documentation. The style works well and it gives the NWOD Werewolf mythos a nice weight in pseudo-historical background. The final chapter is a winner as well - presenting auspice specific storytelling tips and offering a few new auspices as well - if you are looking to diversify your werewolves even further. A definite winner all around, and a valuable resource.
