Fragmentation Protocol
Publisher: Roll The Bones
by Matthew H. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 12/10/2024 06:57:20

Style wise, very good, looks practically official.

content wise this is of course just a precursor rather than the final word so things are likely to change. The focus on the "everything is a simulation" idea that the book pays only a line to is good to focus on, but I'm not sure I would have gone with a specific class per se, rather a set of enhancements characters could gain after every loop (in addition to knowing that the loop has happened), would make for a kinda fun reveal and interesting set of plot possibilities. nonetheless on its own merits the Glitch thief is a novel idea and seems pretty balanced.

regarding the anomalous relics, I like the twist on the standard risk-reward mechanics in CY_borg powers, with the prospect of a dangerous fight if you have too many relics, but I would have generally preferred more relics to be available as a whole rather than just 7 but hey, that's just how it goes sometimes.

the sntntls are cool and would make for some pretty interestign combat encounters.

the character sheet is pretty good but is missing a section to write down stuff about your class.

All Roads Lead to Chrome - An overhaul for Cy_Borg Cybernetics
Publisher: WillGriff
by Matthew H. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 12/10/2024 06:47:37

the extra cybernetics themselves are pretty cool, but I'm not so certain about the malfunction rules, makes them seem far too similar to the Nano and Apps where I think the CY_rage was a perfectly fine method of demonstrating that "going too far" angle the book seems to be pushing and I think just adding the malfunctions table to the CY_rage would have sufficed perfectly well.

Very functional, but the appearance is a little off, and the style is half the fun of CY_borg

CY_BORG Core Rules
Publisher: Free League Publishing
by Matthew H. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 12/02/2024 02:45:23

Slick, Stylish, Cool as hell. The only complaint I would have is an awkward layout for the character creation. It's simple, possibly too simple, andd might get a little trite after a while without homebrew but it does it's job very well.

Very fun and interesting, and I'll always have a softer spot for the classic dice system over the cards, still a worhtwhile purchase even now.

It's exactly what I expected, though I would've preferred a little longer discussion on elements of the train, but for what it's worth it's pretty good

It works well for what it is, it's legacy obviously so there are some awkward mechanics and some fairly poor balancing but on the whole it is a very worthwhile purchase.

This is a really good quality deck, the art is superb and the cardstock itself is very good. The pdf booklet is also very useful for advice on how to use it in play. Highly recommended even for something other than mage.

Werewolf: The Apocalypse 20th Anniversary Edition
Publisher: Onyx Path Publishing
by Matthew H. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 01/31/2024 04:26:06

on the whole very good, the rules are a tad awkwardly presented but the setting is interesting and character creation pretty cool. more could and should be said of lore elements but on the whole a good text.

at least to a degree. Fair warning to those new to werewolf there is a LOT of uncomfortable shit in here as an immense holdover from older editions. There is a reason W5 rebooted various setting elements. If you're not certain about whether you can handle this stuff (or aren't competent enough to just gut it) buy when it's on sale, otherwise... well you've been warned.

Changeling: The Dreaming 20th Anniversary Edition
Publisher: Onyx Path Publishing
by Matthew H. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 01/26/2024 14:04:36

I write this as a person who had not experienced changeling before buying this edition. This is a really enjoyable game, the option to create your own kith is nice and feels really fresh, possibly opening up the doors to take the fae in many interesting directions if you so wish. The vibe is of course different from most world of darkness games but it adds some nice contrast whilst still having enough of a grim vibe to be appealing. the magic system is also surprisingly intuitive. all in all really cool check it out

Vampire: The Masquerade 20th Anniversary Edition
Publisher: White Wolf
by Matthew H. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 12/20/2023 06:58:42

This is an enjoyable edition, and one I personally found much more engaging than V5. There are definitely cultural flubs, the disciplines are a fair bit out of wack, and the character creation is more than a little busted. But the way the world was presented, the detail, and the art engaged me a fair amount more than when I first bought the V5 corebook a while back. Don't be afraid to check this out of you've only played V5, you might find some stuff you like more in here.

Wr20 Book of Oblivion
Publisher: Onyx Path Publishing
by Matthew H. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 11/15/2023 06:25:39

It's a good book and all but it feels a touch haphazard. It seems comprised of elements that should have been in the corebook, but there's not enough of them for it to feel like a proper supplement in its own right, everything could and should have been given more detail, from the spectre cults to the new thorns (of which there's only like 2) to the different locations it describes all just needed more time and info that plot hooks could be built on. the tempest chapter in particular feels frankly just confused and awkward and almost feels like it focuses too far on one view of the tempest rather than other possibilities. its strange.

overall fine enough but it just needed more, shame it's been the only Wr20 supplement thus far. The game could really do with more.

honestly, its fine. so long as you are aware that you're getting into a paradise lost inspired romp it can be very enjoyable. but oof old school white wolfisms a plenty here and many a mechanical element that is not explained clearly, or even at all in one case. pick it up if the reign in hell feel appeals but be aware of what you're getting yourself in for
