A Cold Wind Blows

I’ve ran this 4 times now for between 3-6 players each time. Spoilers below!

I thought this would be a good “in between” or a side scenario for a longer game and interesting location & plot (the times I ran this were for con games or standalone one shots). If your players are Stephen King fans, definitely lean into “the Shining” a bit (I did have a couple of ‘where is the scary hedges’ from players. lol) Overall a fair scenario with a lot of heavy lifting for the keeper.

I did feel like as a keeper I needed to add lot to give the scenario a bit more depth/eliminate some slower periods that happened in the scenario, as presented. (If you have players that are more passive there’s a lot of ‘slow’ periods.)

Things I added/changed: -I added a “welcome tea party” that was going on while the Heroes got checked in, during late morning. This served 1) meeting most of the other guests (and gave them names/occupations/motives for being at the hotel) and small number of staff 2) seeing the statues that Blythe gave the Stanleys. In earlier runs the Heroes didn’t go outside to see them, despite hearing about the new statues and had a hard time figuring out they needed to do anything with them in the end. I also prepped a chase sequence with the Gnomph-Kehs as I find those a bit more pulpy.

-I also had staff/guests gone missing a bit slower, ie they were hearing about 1 or 2 more missing people by lunch/afternoon tea/Mrs. Stanley’s piano playing hour (rather than saying all at once the Heroes were the only ones left by the time Mr. Stanley asked for help at the dinner).

-Telling the Heroes Mr. Stanley has a lab in the hotel and including a hook for a Hero to ask Mr. Stanley about his lab/what he’s working on currently. That helps the players themselves to think of asking Mr. Stanley for help, if he has any gadgets they can use and negates having Mr. Stanley being the hero and defeating the BBEG-instead of the players being the heroes/taking agency from players as the NPC not only has the gadget but uses it himself. It makes the plot happen to the Heroes instead of having them involved in the end. I think this is a product of having a historical character being an NPC as some would want to ‘preserve’ the Historical NPC (or not if trying to do an alternate history thing) whereas an NPC that doesn’t have a historical name/personality could have a lot more latitude.

-Lastly, I the only thing I would add is I would have preferred having an overland map included.

This is an interesting modern scenario. Ran my group with it and it took about 2 hours to play. The only big thing I wish it had were actual handouts (instead of just being described)-so I did whip up a few via Cthulhu Architect’s handout generator.

Will be running again in a few months at a convention.

Some of the ideas could have been more than one sentence, but the product is mostly fine for what it is.

A Night at the Opera

I ran this over 2 sessions with five characters (the duchess and her servants; the doctor and his wife). There were a lot of leads for investigations from the players (and a lot of red herrings for them).

On a minor note-there is A LOT of NPCs to keep track of so had condensed a list written out with a short blurb to refer to.

This is a good introduction to Regency.

Great. Was looking for a character pack for modern characters-this works well for my needs. Always love a modern character pack that isn't AI generated.

This is a great supplement! I’ve printed out these characters for additional characters to have on hand for one shots at cons. The sheets are excellently designed.

I only wish there were 2 additional characters for Pulp and Gaslight (for a total set of 4 for those two eras)-but perhaps those will be for a future volume.

Cultist Armoury: Handouts for The Haunting

These are all awesome! I used the "main" handouts (plus the optional Last Will handout) this past weekend at PAXU and it was immensely helpful running The Haunting. I am planning on printing out the rest of the optional ones (and laminating certain ones like the player's map and the telegram) for my next in person run.

It's fine for what it is-just two long columns with names and their meaning. The only thing I wish is that is that the feminine names started on the top of the next page. Will be using for Cthulhu Dark Ages so it'll do its job generally speaking.

Akhenaten Unveiled

I have run this 3 times so far and will be running it another 4 times (all spread across 3 different discords). I and the players have had an absolute blast playing this. If you have genre savvy players, they may guess what's coming. However, majority of the players I have run this for were absolutely mind blown at the twist. I wish there was an Invictus supplement to keep playing in Egypt. This is my absolute favorite MR scenario I've ever run. For keepers, who want to be more historically correct-I changed the language (Demotic) to Hieriatic (as Demotic was ~700 years in the future but I do get using Demotic to look as different to Hieroglyphs as possible). Otherwise I didn't change anything.
