I ran this last weekend for a family-friendly group of with 3 parents and 5 children ranging in age from 8-10. Characters were all fourth level, and this was a break from the dungeon-focused adventures we've been playing (Tales form the Yawning Portal - also good stuff).

The group really enjoyed the roleplay opportunities that this offered. As the DM, I appreciated the detailed descriptions of the town and the NPCs. All of the focused characters had great RP tips, and it built into a fun adventure that was just long enough to fit within the scope of the kids' attention spans.

Illustrations and maps were on point, and worked very well for our purposes.

I ran this last night for my seven year old daughter. She's played LEGO Heroica and other RPG-esque board games, but this was the first time she had a character sheet and a chance to make bigger decisions about how to play the game and get into character. She had a ball with it and was begging to play more. She spent the rest of the evening after the game creating and drawing a new character to use the next time we play.

This is a very effective age-appropriate design, and a great introduction to RPGs.

The Family Affair is a well-crafted and fun short adventure. For the price point, it's a fantastic value, including a well-crafted story and a set of four NPC stat blocks. The scenario presents a challenge that the PCs need to research and offers several different ways for them to resolve it, with violent as well as social approaches. The back story presented is brief, in keeping with the narrative's length, but it's compelling and could easily lead to follow on products.

The maps on this are nice computer generated backgrounds with a hex-based map. Note that the hex map is a fixed size, so it's only useful if you need ~1" hexes. Note also that the hexes are 1 inch point-to-point, not flat-side to flat-side. This makes them slightly smaller than most 1" miniature hex bases.

Even with those caveats, buying and printing these is dramatically cheaper than any other mapping solution I've found.

The content of this book is worth a solid 5 stars, and that's the only reason that I gave this version of it two stars.

This book is only two years old, but for some reason it was scanned rather than electronically converted. And the scan is bad. A fair of the artwork is incomprehensible because of poor contrast.

It seems like this was also poorly proofed. One of the pages (p.26) is upside down! Possibly a side effect of this is that the text on that page is not selectable.

Unless you really want this to alt-tab to while playing WoW, do not buy it.
