At first I found this product to be very confusing. From its description I had expected a post-singularity science-fiction setting for Fate. Instead it turned out to be a pulp SF add-on to Spirit of the Century, which made extensive reference to that particular set of rules. What's worse, it NEVER actually mentions Spirit of the Century at any point in the text, but refers to "SotC" as if it should be an obvious reference.

However, once I had figured out that it was an add-on product, and resigned myself to it being a different kind of SF setting, the contents were fairly useful. I am a fan of SF pulp stories, and have written some scenarios that I would love to play out in such a universe, and Limitless Horizons would be of some use there, but only some. I found the rules presented to be a bit of a grab-bag of ideas, and not as coherent or as well-explained as I would have liked. For example, the statement that armor causes stress boxes to not 'roll-up' would appear to make armor able to absorb infinite stress and I doubt that is what the author intented that rule to imply.

Frankly, I suspect I find far more useful rule ideas to steal for a pulp SF game in the 'Bulldogs' setting, than in this supplement.

Limitless Horizons is a fun, light read that sparks a lot of ideas, but doesn't always develop them in full.

The product starts with a broad definition of pulp sci-fi, which helps define what this book plans to do and not do. While i do not agree 100% with the authors definition, it's a usable definition that helped me figure out what he was trying to achieve.

The rest of the book consists of 17 pages of rules (Racial Aspects, Scaling, Ship-to-Ship combat, Gravity, etc), a 10 page sample campaign background, and a 10 page adventure.

I was very satisfied with this book, especially for the price. The ship-to-ship combat rules are useful, the ideas on ships-as-player-characters spark some great ideas, and overall the book is a nice source of ideas and "small quick" rules additions.

I would have liked to see maybe a few more pulp sci-fi PCs given as examples, as well as maybe a few quarter-page campaign snap shots showing different types of pulp sci-fi campaigns (ie the Space Cop campaign, the Space Pirates campaign, the Planetary Romance campaign, etc)

You like Spirit of the Century? You don't feel the need of extensive new rules? You want an easy way to expand your FATE adventures into space without the trouble to work through the big gorilla that is Starblazer Adventures? Than this is your way to do it.

What you'll get is some advices for the Sci-Fi genre, a few well designed rules to modify what you've got with SotC, some new and modified Stunts (including Quick Stunt Packages), some sample alien races, some sample gear, a neat little sample campaign background and a likewise adventure all put together in an easy to read and nice to look at layout with few but imo classy illustrations.

I really do like this product.

I already own Starblazer Adventures and that is a much more sophisticated approach to the genre but Limitless Horizons is absolutely adequate to get going into space with FATE - in the quick, easy and cheap way.
