Temple of Ra Accursed by Set (1979)

I was never a great fan of judges guild stuff, but I enjoy adventures set in Egyptian-like settings, so I'd thought I'd take a chance on this one. I remember judges guild being printed on very thin paper, so the first thing I noticed that the scans were pretty good given what they had to work with. It is your typical judges guild adventure with what seems like totally randomly placed encounters separated by a few lines for notes. There is little to no artwork within, the map is only 1 level, and the princess you're supposed to rescue isnt even beautiful (according to the module text). Well the module isnt beautiful either. I'm going to pass on this one unless I were a collector of Judges Guild material.

Killer dungeon with too much treasure. Entertaining read and original presentation, but I would only recommend DMing this if you want to punish your friends for making you DM again :P

Keep on the Borderlands: The Expansion

well its free, but I have to admit if it had cost me $1 or more, I would have 1- starred this module in a heartbeat. It definitely lives up to the hype. The treasure and rewards are too much and most DM's will be able to kill the party without much effort. Exactly the sort of thing I remember in my youth lol. Good for a quick read, but I'll pass on this one.

Very nice detail and imaginative maps drawn by someone with some real talent for this sort of thing. I enjoy writing adventures with Drow as the "bad guys". These temple maps will be a perfect home for Lolth's minions along with some other evil beasts for the cavern level - not sure yet what I'll go with, but I'll probably browse the wandering monster tables for D1-2 for ideas. For an adventure for characters of lower-level, I could also envision a plot involving some isolated spider cult. In a future update, I would like to see these maps available in "module blue" color if you know what I mean.

Dolm River

Dolm River has everything I look for in a good module. Brave Halfling Publishing does "all the little things right" as I'll explain... I prefer adventures that can be finished in one evening - its so hard to get all the same players back together to finish if it wasn't. I like rumor tables the players can roll on to get the adventure started. Contains a nice selection of pre-generated characters. Its formatted nicely, in that the parts that you read aloud are all shaded in gray boxes. Treasure is bolded, Monsters have referenced page numbers and a separate stat sheet. Contains separate players and LL maps and nice B/W artwork throughout. The party must safely escort a little spoiled rich girl to another town through 6 planned encounters and depending on the dice, probably about 4 of the 20 possible random encounters. Bonus features include some plot ideas to extend the adventure further and it is a nice touch that the players' can haggle on their rewards. I will probably just make one small change - make Claudia, 1st level. I just never bought into the whole 0-level character thing. If the module is ever updated, one request I would like to make for the next edition is a good B/W drawing of mischievous Claudia in the NPC section. This one looks to be alot of fun and (hopefully) a few good laughs. IMPORTANT! - be sure to purchase Larm, also by Brave Halfling Publishing. It adds so much more to the characters' starting location for this adventure. And is well worth it for the price.
