xxxWar of the Dead (Chapter One Subscription)

I've written a more detailed review of Chapter One Weeks 1 - 3, but as mentioned there, this is the way to go. The subscription gets you all 13 "episodes" for less than the cost of buying them individually. Don't bother to sample the product by buying Weeks 1 - 3 only to see if you'll like it. Trust me, go ahead and get the sub and thank me later for saving you money.

War of the Dead: Chapter One (Week 1 through Week 3)

This is a great start to what is shaping up to be an instant classic for both Savage Worlds and Zombie fans. This "volume" gives you all the setting background, chargen (including new Edges/Hindrances), and NPCs/monsters for the first 13 "episodes", along with the first 3 weeks worth of adventures to jump start your campaign. However, the subscription model is the better deal since you get this product and the 10 remaining episodes of Chapter One at a better price than buying them individually.

Chapter One is just the first quarter of what will ultimately be a year long campaign released as a series of weekly episodes. It's an ambitious plan, releasing a 52-part campaign and I'll admit I was skeptical about signing up for a year long subscription. By breaking it up into 4 smaller parts, you can get the "first course" without committing to the entire meal. Chapter One will stand on it's own, so it can provide a satisfying mini-campaign in it's own right, even if you don't buy the remaining chapters. I like it so much, I'm running it for two different groups. Personally, the quality of the writing up to this point (week 8 as of this review) has been so good that I anxiously await each week's installment and I know I'll be buying into the whole series, whether or not I get to run the entire thing or not.

The layout and artwork are good as well. The layers feature was used to allow you to turn off the background image to create your own printer friendly version for those like me that prefer a hard copy at the table.

But trust me, go for the subscription. If you buy this product because you aren't sure if you'll like it and it's a lower cost than the 20 bucks for all of Chapter One, you'll be hooked and end up buying the remaining weeks anyway, only you'll end up paying more.

Advanced Fleet Designs: Titan Class Scout

This is a fairly small ship intended to be suitable for a PC party to travel in. The product contains a keyed map and a series of tiles that can be used for miniatures. The tiles are presented in a single layer, so all of the fixtures including beds, chairs, crates, etc. are fixed in their location and cannot be removed. There's no dedicated cargo area, only a small storage room in the bow, with the only exit apparently the airlock in the stern, so it's strictly a transport even though the fluff section says it's a popular with smugglers. I guess you could be smuggling small items of high value. Worse, there is no bathroom. Not sure what the crew is supposed to do to relieve themselves. Use the airlock?

This isn't the worst map/tile ship I've seen, but it's not up to the caliber of the Future Armada stuff from Ki Ryn Studios.

A Small Task for Appleview D&D 4th edition for Fantasy Grounds II

When I was new to FG2 and D&D4e, the idea of an ready made adventure module appealed to me and there weren't many options. This product however isn't worth the money. The adventure is strictly a railroad affair. There's even a part where the PCs are surrounded by fog and can't make any progress except in the direction desired by the author. There is another point where the PCs must make an important discovery in an out of the way location, because if they don't, they cannot finish the adventure. The included tokens are a mix of styles drawn from a variety of free sources, adding to the amateurish appearance of the product.
