I found the setting just - ok. The spell names are really making things difficult IMO. And while I found the solo rules ok-ish, I have my issues with them. For example I found encounters at least with a solo spell caster just too hard.<br /> The urban adventure rules felt on rails when rolling for scenes and writers' room when not. The scene selection themselves are actually good inspiration, but there is no separation between "the next scene is about something the PC wanted to do" and "the next scene is about something that forces events on the PC". So if you roll for the next scene, agency gets completely lost. If you just choose, there is nothing unexpected. The "wilderness adventures" hexcrawl procedures felt aimless. The dungeon part was ok-ish, but nothing more, and suffered from encounters again.

STA Captain's Log Solo Roleplaying Game (TNG Edition) PDF

It is a great game if you like the "writers' room" experience that it provides. The life path character creation is great, there are lots of random tables for various things starting with mission generation and not stopping with random radiation names. But the system itself doesn't do much in terms of automatically adding complications, and there is not much in terms of resources management either. Developing the story, adding complications, etc, is mostly up to you or the very generic yes/no oracle.

The minis are not bad at all, but I'd really prefer if they folded at the top, not the bottom. I use a different style of bases, and that would make my life much much easier.

Mildly entertaining. Too little control over protagonists actions for my liking. E.g. roll for event: meet a trapper. Roll d6: "You rob him." No option to do something else. Some events have options but only a few. The decision where to move on the map feels mostly pointless.

The Anatomy of Adventure

While it was an entertaining (and short) read, I wouldn't be able to answer the question "what is the anatomy of adventure" after reading it. The title is a misnomer - this is not a book about "the anatomy of adventure", it is a collection of essays in which the author talks about how and why he thinks adventures that he published was a success. Most tips are about how to successfully publish adventures. There are no "these are the learning points in this chapter" summaries either. Parts of it feel like advertisement for the authors published work.

Since I don't intend to publish adventures but was looking for tips on how to prepare scenarios and possible storylines (adventures?) for my own sessions, this book wasn't of much use to me.
