I must say I have looked forward to the Castle Zagyg products. This is the second one I have purchased. However like the Castle Zagyg: Yggsburgh product the Moat Gate Expansion suffers from a lack of professionalism at certain points.
Most glaring is the absence of any internal maps of the The Fane of the Three Norns. The author describes the upper and basement levels of the Fane but there are NO maps to correlate to his room by room descriptions. Don't tell me this is so the GM can insert his own idea on how the maps should appear. Is the lack of maps a result of a technical error in the scanning of the pages? If so it needs to be corrected ASAP.
The Moat Gate quarter is obviously meant for level 1-4 characters. The quarter itself seems very sterile and generic, especially in the to the linear fashion in which the town is laid out. In addition, the Moat Gate is not alive like the Castle Zagyg: Yggsburgh book is. One good point about the expansion is the random encounter tables. The tables are sufficiently detailed and extensive enough to provide allot of adventures. Although it would have been nice if the thieves and other underworld characters had incorporated some of the ideas detailed in the Canting Crew to make them and their endeavors seem more alive.
