An excellent single volume game that runs very smoothly at the table. Like White Box, character levels run from 1-10 but with more class options and many sub-class variants.
The range of content in this book reminds me of B/X, but with lots of extras that don’t slow the game down and can be used or ignored according to preference. These include a wide range of tactical combat options, rules for downtime activities (including magical research), and overcharging spells to achieve more powerful effects.
The bestiary is geared towards sword and sorcery with a variety of creatures that would not seem out of place in the works of REH, CAS and HPL. Variant options are provided for each creature along with recommendations for presenting them in more of a high fantasy style.
Finally, this book can be used to run any D&D-based OSR module with little or no conversion required. Guidance on this is provided in the book.
In short, I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a new OSR rules set or ideas to add to their current game.
