Hi. I'm the outlier.

I was attracted initially to this due to the additional information that could be adapted to 5th Edition with the 2024 DMG's inclusion of Greyhawk as a campaign setting and the additional information it would provide. It's nice that the author included info about the Greyhawk Wars and From The Ashes, but kept the 576 CY baseline. Even though I've been a fan of the setting since the Greyhawk Folio, The Gold Boxed Set, Greyhawk Adventures, and the City of Greyhawk boxed set (My TTRPG tastes changed, so I missed the later Greyhawk supplements were released and life got on the way), I am quite happy with Fifth Edition and the changes thre new DMG brought to the settings.

I see this book as a step forward, but at least two or three steps back regarding the author's reluctance to change the names (Arn for Blackmoor, among others that were changed for a myriad of reasons including offensive tropes or obsolete reductive terms to call people and nations) and rulers of the different teritories (tieflings, aasimar, and dragonborn are here mostly to comply with the SRD, yet a Tiefling cannot be a ruler apparently) as well as his insistence of not allowing gunpowder in Greyhawk, yet somehow Murlynd is exempt, even though gunpowder is quite functional in Greyhawk (see the free Scions of Eloemental Evil adventure). Olmans and no Touvs? For real? The author justifies this as going for an old school flavor, yet this messes continuity and integration with what was established in the 2024 DMG.

At the end of the day, you can decide whether this will benefit your table or not. It would've been nice, especially to newcomers to the Greyhawk setting, if the author commited and built upon these chsnges instead of insisting on keeping with the old. Your mileage will vary depending on how you run your table.

Really enjoyed this update to the Greyhawk history. Joe puts out some great products (many for free on his website) and his knowledge of Greyhawk is impressive. Grognard level impressive :). I love that he kept it old school as a DM that has been running campaigns in Greyhawk since the mid 80's I appreciate that very much. A few things of note for me on this new source book for Greyhawk.

1. I like that he discusses the three significant times that need to be considered when running campaigns in Greyhawk (CY 576, 585, and 591). It is an important consideration.
2. The discussion on tech is an important point and I really appreciate that Joe mentions it.
3. Joe's outline on the History and Timeline don't go into the weeds but gives a DM and players a really excellent premier on Greyhawk's history.
4. This is my only negative comment and that is in the Inhabitants of the Flanaess I wish he would have mentioned the Touv along with the Olman when he mentioned them.
5. The update to the kingdoms and location is well done and much appreciated.
6. I appreciate that Joe sticks with the actual history and doesn't update/retcon for the sake of change.

Wish I could give it six stars.

What a fantastic, "all-in-one" resourse! This alone will probably take the place of an entire folder full of bookmarked websites!

Very enjoyable information, regardless of edition you play. It is a joy to read, and will be very useful for newcomers to the realm of Greyhawk.

More than just a reprint of the Golden Box Set - well laid out with enough information to really understand the setting without overwhelming or going against the idea of "Everyone Has Their Own Greyhawk" idea.

His videos on YouTube are very helpful without being too long.

Great product that offers DnD 5e players a solid intro to Greyhawk!

I think its a great prodcut that helps keep Greyhawk alive and also moves things up to D&D 2024 (5.5e, etc) standards for the game. I am not sure why some people gave it a 2 rating, there is no reason for that. While it may not cover everything Greyhawk related, it is up to the best standards of any DMG produced product.

I too am waiting for the POD version.
