Paranormal Wellington: Optimal Edition
Publisher: Taleturn
by Nigel [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 08/17/2024 19:32:57

This game is a lot of fun to run and play. The PbtA rules are stripped down to a minimum, leaving plenty of room for immersive, narrative play. The filming roles, which give each character goals to achieve during the adventure, are brilliant and encourage great, and hilarious, roleplaying. Perfect for sessions when you're a few players down or limited for time. My one proviso is that this is definitely a better game with a smaller number of players, but I heartily recommend it.

When the Moon Hangs Low - Blessed are the Faithful

This is a great supplement for the main game. The new setting material adds dynamic flavor and depth to the game world. There's also plenty of new mechanics for players and GMs alike. It's also a really nice looking book with great art and accessible layout. If you haven't tried When the Moon Hangs Low you should. If you are already a player this is a must have.

Court of Blades - Scandal, Forged in the Dark
Publisher: A Couple of Drakes
by Nigel M. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 01/16/2023 20:20:14

I'm a big fan of the Forged in the Dark system and this game is an excellent example of it in use. Court of Blades takes the great narrative first structure of Forged in the Dark and applies it to daring adventure, courtly intrigue and romance without adding layer upon layer to the structure of the system. Setting is distinctive but totally open to customisation by your group to the playstyle you favour. The art is beautiful and evocativ. Happy to recommend

Eternus Core Rulebook

So, I picked this up on the quickstart and was quite impressed. The full game is not a disappointment. A great tecno fantasy concept that can be tailored to suit your needs. Core play draws strongly from Forged in the Dark and Powered by the Apocolypse, which for me is a good thing. The rules for creating your Domain, the feudal kingdom that serves as a bassis for your character allow good variation and inspire roleplaying ideas. Equipment and Domain resources, that can be used to aid characters, are varied and dynamic. Definately worth a look.

Great product showing lots of promise for the main game. Very accessable mechanically, if your a fan of Forged in the Dark or PbtA you'll love the system. I can see using this game for a very Masters of the Universe style game. Will buy the full game.

This is a great little game. The system is clear, intuitive and lets you get on with the narrative. Its in the setting though where this game really excells. The post great war, roaring twenties, dieselpunk combination makes for a rollercoaster of high action adventure. Loved playing it.

Trinity Continuum: Aeon

Now, I'm biased, I played a lot of the original White Wolf game and loved it. And I love this version, it is a great space opera setting with deep plot and a fascinating universe to interact with. The rules build nicely on The Trinity Continuum Core Rulebook, though in fairness there are layout and referencing issues with the book itself. The psionic powers, which lie at the heart of the setting are really well done and allow an amazing variety of in play options. If you want to run a Babylon 5 style epic sci fi adventure this is the setting for you.

So, I've given this game a four star rating but there are problems. The layout and clarity of the rules leaves something to be desired. On the other hand, the rules do make sense and have some really nice new mechanical ideas contained within them. I brought this product as I wanted to play Trinity: Aeon so won't be using them for the default setting contained within but its a perfectly playable setting.

Great little supplement. Really captures the Wuxia genre, with good well flavoured character options, in a nice easy to play ruleset. Plenty of options for martial arts and magic. Scant but very evocative artwork.
