America the Beautiful for Tiny Gunslingers
Publisher: Gallant Knight Games
by Paolo [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 11/11/2024 06:54:17

I really dislike Tiny Gunslingers as a system/rulebook, but I am really appreciating the quality of the support material that has been produced for it. I have just started a wild west campaign using a custom modified version of Tunnel Goons, and America the Beautiful offers tons of stuff to enhance my campaign, without too much detail.

Of the 12 parts of this supplement:

HISTORY OF THE WEST NEW TRAIT ADVANCEMENT THE MELTING POT LANGUAGES OF THE OLD WEST JIM BOWIE’S LEGENDARY KNIFE COST OF LIVING PROFESSIONS WAGES THE FUR TRADE PROSPECTING BOUNTY HUNTING HOME ON THE RANGE TEXAS RANGERS ADVENTURE GENERATOR THE COCHISE COUNTY COWBOYS

Only NEW TRAIT and ADVANCEMENT are of little use to me (being new rules for Tiny Gunslinger) everything else may come handy either to plan out my campaign, or even just right in the middle of a session.

Definitely reccomended.

Here is the "Conclusions" part:

I am really not happy with the system (take also in account that even if TinyGunslinger was sold as a "complete game" you better get a copy of TinyDungeons in any case or you have to invent lots of stuff, like stats for bears, horses and... average humans, too).

I am sure that after this playtest everything would work better (my players would know how to better design their characters, I would get more accustomed to the mechanics, and could start adding my own personal touches...) but I wasn't particularly impressed either by the system "per se" or by how it was used to model "old west" stories.

S&S: The Gatling Decision

I wanted to do set up a one-shot to test a different game (Tiny Gunslingers) and at the same time see if my players would like a change of theme (western stories, with or without a bit of supernatural thrown in).

Even if it is written for another system, I finally selected this, not only for the price, but also because it was self-contained, and offered diverse "acts" showcasing classical Wild West events like train robberies and saloon brawls.

My players did not manage to complete it, but I was extremely happy with the adventure, and if you are looking for something to start a Western campaign this will fit the bill (it also offers an "excuse" for the party to meet and become friends).

One Page Adventure - Jackal's Rift
Publisher: Lore Wise Games
by Paolo M. [Verified Purchaser]

I integrated it yesterday in my ongoing Fantasy campaign (I needed a climbing segment where the PCs have to climb over a mountain to try to subdue/capture/kill a Roc).

Please understand that this one-page scenario is designed to provide a descent, not an ascend (i.e. it starts at the top of a Rift and you have to safely arrive to the bottom). I just invented a sort of canyon and put the rest of the mountain on the other side: the descent part is quite fun and well designed, and will also provide inspiration to create a homemade equivalent for the climbing part.

You get two identical maps: one is to be used at the table (or online on some VTT system), the GM gets a copy which is keyed with various events, random tables etc. providing clear instructions on how to handle the different paths to the bottom.

Ship Map: Man-Of-War
Publisher: Anekdota Press

I am a very satisfied owner of the original (now updated) version of this product. I needed a large sail ship to use as main "base" for a fantasy campaign, and I found most of the existing offers in this category (here on DTRPG and also online on various blogs etc.) somehow lacking.

Both the deckplans and the added explanations are top-notch, and easily adapted (e.g.: you get deckplans with and without cannons). What I especially liked is that everything you actually need to have on a real ship (including head - i.e. toilets) but also an area for livestock (for longer voyages), different kinds of storage areas, smaller boats - everything is there, with concise but apt description.

I eagerly await for more stuff in the same product line, even if the current campaign (and the Man-Of-War booklet) will last me for months: I am pretty sure that reading this stuff will give me plenty of ideas for other uses.

The Temple of Lies
Publisher: Zzarchov Kowolski
by Paolo M. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 08/19/2020 07:34:43

I used it for an introductory adventure - a sort of trial run that would then be used to start a longer campaign. I was very satisfied with it: there is enough structure but also a lot of space for improvisation or adding details.

(Addendum - August 2020). In fact I was so pleased with it that I used it again for kickstarting a completely new campaign. Btw in both cases I used TinySix as a system and conversion was a breeze.

One extra asset of this adventure is that it works well in a non-Western-influenced milieu: in both cases I used it in an "Arabian Nighthmares" setting without having to change a single word.
