Lords of Chaos
Publisher: Deadman Press
by Joseph [Verified Purchaser]

What do you get when you combine Sons of Anarchy with Dark Champions? You get Lords of Chaos, the latest Dark Champions supplement from Deadman Press. As the author, Thomas Mortel states, this book as an homage to that great tv series, so much so that when reading through it I couldn’t help but have “This Life” running through my head. I have to say this book is well done. It gives you everything you need to create your own biker characters, but also gives you a well fleshed out criminal organization to use in your Dark Champions campaign. There is enough information here that you could use as the basis for a campaign centered around biker gangs... err clubs. The first chapter delves into biker culture, including a comprehensive list of slang terms. There is also an outlaw biker template to create new characters. Chapter two has a comprehensive history of the Lords of Chaos, titles and responsibilities of executive board members, character write ups, and details on associates and hangers on of the club. Each character is detailed, and the character designs are each unique and well done. Chapter three provides information on the town the club calls home, their clubhouse, and two businesses the club owns including a mechanic and a bed and breakfast. After all, you need a few places to launder those ill-gotten gains. Each location has a detailed map and description. There are even stats for the mechanic shop’s tow truck. Chapter four looks at bikes, including standard equipment on bikes and a section on upgrades and customizations. Each upgrade and customization are explained thoroughly, with game costs and information so you can add them to a bike with those well-earned experience points. When I read this chapter I really felt like Mortel poured his heart into this. You do not go into that level of detail unless you really care about something. Then at the end there are cut-out counters for the key characters in the book. Lots of time, effort, and heart went into this supplement. This is a must have for any Dark Champions GM who wants to include biker gangs in their game or make a whole biker-centric campaign.

Signal to Noise - A 1980s Analog Horror Scenario

This is a great scenario. I am running it currently, one session down, and one to go. The handouts and the videos really make this scenario feel more real. Plus, it's a change of pace from other CoC scenarios which is refreshing. I can't recommend this scenario enough!

Very well written, and beautifully illustrated. It's great to help you run CoC or even just to have to show off the art. It goes much more in depth into the deities and creatures of the mythos, which can help you make your games more interesting. Also, the non-mythos creatures give you more options for your game, if you don't want your characters to battle formless, sanity crush, star spawn.

What I like about the titles by Monsters of Victorian Britain is that the monsters are unique. The author didn't just come up with your typical vampires, werewolves, etc. The author also creates a great backstory for each. The artwork is great too!

I was not a fan of 5e as a horror system, until I started reading the work of RPGGamer. Their classes, creatures, and other homebrew made me realize 5e can work as a horror game, or even more so as an action-horror game. The creatures are amazing. Very unique, cinematic in many ways, and more interesting than your run of the mill vampires, and ghosts. Even if you don't run 5e, the creatures will greatly inspire you to get out of the Universal monster and eldritch horror archetypes. Next, I would love to see more Victorian horror classes, ala Penny Dreadful, and yes there are a lot of systems and games that are Penny dreadful inspired, but I want to see RPGGamer's twist on the genre.

Thanks for the stellar review, very much appreciated. I've taken on board your ideas about Victorian Classes, and from today I'll be releasing a bunch along with some monsters over the next couple of weeks. I'm trying to keep them so you could run a straight Victorian Horror setting with some magic in it, or run it with Fantasy Races in it as well, so I'll be putting together a setting book as well, describing how the Victorian era came about with fantasy races such as Orks, Dwarves and Elves in it, and their roles in society. Thanks for the idea, really got my mind working in an interesting new direction.
