SoLAR - Slice of Life Anime Realized
Publisher: Zotiquest Games

This game seems cute and wholesome. I like how it presents sequences of scenes as a tool to make it easier to play slice of life adventures.

Unfortunately though, this game is unplayable as far as I can tell.

  • There are references to three archetypes that you can distribute points between but I have no idea where those three archetypes are even after combing the book.
  • Even if I'd figure how to create a character I am still utterly confused on how to play this game. I get it that you should roll dice = points in archetypes but then you pick playing cards as well that supposedly allow you certain moves and it is not at all explained how they interact with the game mechanics unless I missed it somewhere.

It says this book is in beta stage, but I'd say it is barely in alpha stage. The book needs a major revision, polish and finish in order to be playable anywhere outside of the author's own mind.

Some minor quibbles:

  • It is fair enough to hate fascists. I hate fascists. Unfortunately that word is far too abused and misused, kind of like how righ-wing people use "woke" to denote anything and anyone who don't agree with them. To include this in a gamebook out of left field unfortunately does little but give cause for people to ridicule leftists.
  • Artificial intelligence art is artificial. Look at the hands on the book cover.

Mythic Monsters #36: Mesoamerica
Publisher: Legendary Games
by Mattias B. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 05/19/2019 02:51:04

This product is seriously lacking. It just contains pure statblocks and nothing else.

  • There are no discussions of a mesoamerican bestiary and how it tells us something about the world view, cosmology and mythology of these cultures.
  • Almost no art to speak of, you have to look up pictures on your own.
  • No examples of how such creatures live or how they would interact with the players.
  • No story hooks.
  • The product says "Mesoamerica" but includes South American countries as well.
