Do you like 90's action movies? Do you like Martial arts movies, City Hunter or John Wick? Do you like simple but not simplitist systems? Are you disapointed by the system of the offical GI joe RPG like I am?

Then Outgunned is for you.!

The point is simple everything pulpy or actionized works with Outgunned, you can make a character in 10 minutes and he will be very solid and effective. The rules are great and have this little thing that does not make them bland. To be clear : you roll attribute+skill D6. You try to do pairs, triples, squares and even 5 of. You can try to improve your roll but if you fail, you loose what you have BUT you have feats that often fibes reroll without risk. That works wonderfully.

ennemies are represetend as a challenge and that works great for action and so the gameplay is fluid.

The art is nice, the structure of the book is excellent, the writing is clear. The PDF is both in ITA and english and so are the fillable character sheets.

Do I have something wrong to say about this game? No.

Fabula Ultima TTJRPG

I am 35. I play video games since I'm 5 and J-RPGs since I'm 10. I played a crapton of J-RPGs.

If you want to put Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Bravely Default, Octopath Traveller or the recent Chained Echoes, this is game is for you.

It's a cheap game (French Physical will come in February under 50€) all in one and gives you all the tools to make you J-(TT)-RPG.

  • World building comes from Apocalypse World and is cooperative
  • Villains have clock, PCs have to move their ass
  • Character creation is great taking both the better of the worlds of 13th Age and FATE
  • Optimisation does exist but isn't busted
  • Art support well the style
  • GM advices are great for beginners
  • Classes are well designed and easy to "reskin"
  • PC evolution is great, both simplier and richer than D&D
  • Magic and summons are easy to use
  • Using only attributes for actions instead of skills gives a lot of freedom
  • There are tools to make you own ennemies and villains
  • Character relations are used like in Cortex Prime
  • Character sheet is greatly made and there are already fillable one

I don't really see any flaw in this game. Even the fact that it's made for at least 2 PCs is said in the beginning. This is a hidden gem which is cheaper than D&D 5 and many people can enjoyed. At least, give it a try with the "press tart" quickstart.

Cold & Dark

Probably the best horror-SF TT RPG!

I Knew Cold & Dark for a long time but, actually, I am mastering some Resident Evil with a friend, then I thought about horror SF. We have plently of horror in modern age ( World of Darkness, Kult, Call of Cthlhu) and in med-fan ( Warhammer, Shadow of the demon lord, Ravenlof) but almost nothing for SF except Alien.

The thing is that the author loves horror movie, loves video games and tabletop roleplaying games. That counts.A lot.

As examples, his first inspirations are Alien, Event Horizon and Dead Space, but in these universe, you have no hope.

So he took all the univere he liked, tweaked them to let your PC to have a chance to live and have some kind of future and put them togethe. That's a feat of intelligence.

The system is simple, almost forgettable, you simply do D8 dices pool and must do 7 or 8 to do successes. In combat, the defense becomes a minus while some specific tools or situations give you bonuses.

To create your PC, you simply take an archetype while very, very clever bonus ( as example, an operative can never botch stealth or security check and have +1 Dice to these checks!). Then you have freebies like in World of Darkness.

The book is quite complete, you have almost 20 planets to visit, spaceship rules, high tech armor from Crysis ect.

The detail on the universe is great, like for many ennemies and factions. That's great.

The art is gorgeous! Some monsters or stuff are eye candy

To summary, the game does well what it proposes and that's pretty all but also, pretty great!

Excellent generic system, usable for anything, plenty of options, great freedom for both GM and players. The only thing is that the character sheet is extremely sober, contrary to Cypher's one as example.

Mage: The Ascension 20th Anniversary Edition

As a fan of World of Darkness fan, I like Vampire 20 and Hunter 20 a lot, and I adore Werewolf 20, I've read the first edition of Mage: The Ascension and so I was very hyped to get M20.

M20 is great, the book is superb, explains well to tellers and give a crapton of options. Your players want to play tradition mages? It's ok. they want to be orphans? They can. They want to see how it is when you're a techno? It's also aviable!

The book is great and I love how much they use examples or details (like the book of Shadowrun 5th) to understand most.

The only thing : don't use it with beginners players. Mage is hard to make them understand there are much risks.
