Wow! Way more value than I expected for $2!

This is 110 pages with 100 beautiful illustrations. It's obviously a labor of love by the author who also did the artwork himself. The layout, the presentation, everything is top notch proffessional standards. It should be a lot more expensive than it is.

No spoilers, but there is so much going on that the players will find things that interest them enough to follow up on after the main scenario is done. All the keeper needs to do is watch what the players get interested in and you have a whole campaign setup if you want.

The story begins with a classic trope:

"A letter arrives at each characters address, from an affluent York based Solicitors, Gray & Grey. Upon opening the letter they find it informs them of the death of an old acquaintance. They have been named as a beneficiary in the late Edward Lombard’s last Will and Testament. Included in the envelope is a first class train ticket to attend the reading of his will, at his country estate, “Lombard House” on the North Yorkshire coast. The investigators have not seen Edward for well over a decade and were never very close. Being named as a beneficiary is a complete surprise out of the blue. None of the investigators have ever met each other or visited his estate before."

From there things get weird...and then they get weirder...and then they get even weierder.

So what you get is a publishable quality, full length scenario, beautifully illustrated and professionally layed out, classic mystery on the Yorkshire moors with murder and heavy occult elements and lots of rabbitholes for future play. It's really a shame the market is so flooded because this should easily fetch $15 just for the pdf.

Get this scenario!

The Legacy of Lombard House is a fascinating read. The author/illustrator clearly went to great lengths to develop this. The opening premise for this investigative adventure is solid and well-laid out. The artwork is surreal and hauntingly beautiful, very fitting for a classic Call of Cthulhu scenario. The amount of details in this creation is enough to supply both new and experienced Keepers with loads of useful information to successfully run their sessions. This is obviously not a one-shot! There are pre-gens with decent stats and characteristics, so Keepers can concern themselves with prepping other areas of this sandbox scenario. The author also included a timeline of events, an alternative ending, along with an abundance of maps and handouts, and even tips for Keepers--making this product well worth the price.

To be fair, I debated whether to deduct a star off for some minor formatting concerns (for example: indentions aren't 100% consistent) and the lack of a clickable Table of Contents, which makes navigating around a larger document easier and is a benefit of owning a PDF. Ultimately, I decided against this, as these do not diminish the quality of content packed inside this module.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I was one of the fortunate playtesters for the main scenario, but have yet to see the additional material for Boggle Hole, nor run it as a Ref. Not yet, at least. From a player’s perspective, this scenario is a deliciously involving undertaking, a sprawling exploration of a large house, surrounding grounds and immediate environs. Plus, the local pub! The story is immersive, moving along at a good pace, and the detail is rich and deep. There’s moments of drama, discovery and horror, but also levity and even genuine humour. There’s room for multiple playing styles too, with a good selection of clues which had us scrabbling in all different directions for multiple false conclusions. The artwork deserves a mention. Yes, it is of a caricature style in places, but the fact it’s all from the same hand (no AI art to be seen here) gives a sense of continuity throughout the book. It’s also done by the author himself meaning what you see is exactly what he intended. But this is more than just a cracking adventure. The details of the surrounding area are given in enough detail to create a good sized sandbox, allowing for other scenarios to be run there. It wouldn’t take much work to slip in other published stories with only a modicum of work. All told this would make a valuable addition to the library of anyone wanting to run Call of Cthulhu in a setting I’ve not seen delineated before - the North of England (a location more sanity blasting than the Plateau of Leng).
