My actual rating is 4.5 but it's a much more succinct & streamlined Dungeon World with a little less D&D holding it back. Only negatives I see are: 1) some moves in some character playbooks (aka character classes) still seem broken - like in the Paladin and the Gunslinger. 2) Most of the Make Camp points were cut entirely rather than tweaking them to be more fun 3) I still want carousing

This is a great hack of Dungeon World. I like the art and the writer's tone. It is a great way to introduce players to games that are Powered By the Apocalypse. One quick question: I have a pdf of the "Maze World Basic" in addition to the 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4 versions. I also have 2 hardcover books (with an inverted cover, btw).

Is there a print option for the "basic" version? Thanks,

Eric

Hi Eric, Thank you for your kind words about Maze World! Regarding your question, just to clarify, when you mention the "Maze World Basic" edition, are you referring to the first PDF version that I released before the 1.1, 1.2, and subsequent versions? If so, the content of the 1.4 version is essentially the same as the basic version, with the main difference being that the 1.4 version includes some error corrections. Currently, the print version is not updated to the latest PDF version. However, I am working on updating the print version to match the latest PDF. If you have any other questions or need further information, please feel free to ask. Thank you for your support! Best regards, Jasper

Sporo błędów językowych. Wrażenie DW z okrojona mechaniką. Moim zdaniem produkt znacznie gorszy od DW.

On a technical level, this book isn't perfect. The artwork appears to be AI-generated, but it's still pretty impressive. There are also some misspellings in the rewritten text, but not enough to make me regret my purchase. This book makes all the right changes to Dungeon World in a very thoughtful, organized layout. The character playbooks are better designed and cleaner than the originals. If you want to introduce your D&D group to PBTA games, there's no better way to do it than Maze World.

I’d been delving into the realms of Dungeon World as well as some of its well-known enhancements when I came across this “remixed” version. This is exactly what it is advertised as BUT, if you want to play or are interested in playing Dungeon World, this is a far better version to pick up. The differences are mostly subtle, but it reads far easier than its predecessor right from the beginning. The first thing I noticed when reading through this book was the structure of the rules was better. The information is presented more professionally. Layouts are clean, easy to follow, and don’t feel cluttered. And where the art was acceptable but fairly-low grade in quality in Dungeon World, this book presents AI art, in full color.
Character creation has been altered slightly. Stats are just the modifiers, race/ancestry is now only a cosmetic choice, and what were once Racial adjustments are now Background adjustments. Alignment has been renamed to Drive. Starting Moves have been renamed to Talents on the Classes. Functionally, this means that the classes are almost identical but there is a slight tweak here and there. Another thing worth noting is it has 15 Classes to choose from verses the 8 found in the Dungeon World Book. Once we get through the character creation, the book focuses on the rules though it renames the different moves to names that will be more familiar to many players outside of these types of games.
The Game Master section doesn’t change much from Dungeon World, though again, presented in a way that is easier to read, better organized, and familiar. Monsters are expanded where they make sense, giving more options for the same types of races. For example, there are four Elemental types instead of one. The level of professionalism to how this book is presented should be noted. Maze World exceeds its predecessor in every way. The pdf for Maze World is half the price of Dungeon World. There is even a hardcover version of the book. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested! I had never heard of J. Winters prior to picking this up, but I’ll be paying attention to future releases.

It's really annoying to buy a pdf and have it encrypted so you can't print parts of it for reference

A good revision of Dungeon World that's clear more consice and mostly compatable with pre-existing content. This will probobly become my new go-to for transitioning D&D players into the world of other games. A few minor critiques.

There are a few sections of the book that should be re-written to get rid of what appears to be holdovers from Dungeon World.

For example the section about creating your own classes says that the figher has 10 base HP and the Wizard has 4. This appears to be a holdover from Dungeon World as the classes for this game have +10 Base HP to account for the change in the way CON works without ability scores.

The Crom mentions compendium classes as being named after the Maze World Basic Compendium. This appears to be a find-and-replace of the text in Dungeon World as there is no Maze World Basic edition or a compendium for it.

Besides these minor typos this is a great game, and I can't wait to get a hold of my Physical copy.
