Wretched New Flesh - Postcards from Avalidad
Publisher: The Red Room
by Eric F. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 08/18/2022 20:58:35

"Wretched New Flesh is an OSR adaptation of Postcards from Avalidad, a Postmortem Studios setting. This is a near-future sci-fi/ surreal horror game inspired by the works of William S. Burroughs, David Cronenberg, William Gibson, and Clive Barker. Almost 400 pages crammed-full of information about the bizarre world of Avalidad, with mechanics compatible with the previous Wretched games."

"The game setting is centred on Avalidad, a futuristic city in Morocco, where corporations have been conducting research in genetics, cybernetics, augmented and virtual reality, and biotechnology. By default, characters are expected to be ZoneSec operatives or executives for Takeda Technologies, one of the most powerful corporations in Avalidad, but other roles such as Avalidad’s celebrities, fiscal royalty and seedy underbelly are also possible."

So the Red Room folks have been busy again & this time it's a full rpg that we've been waiting for! Wretched New Flesh - Postcards from Avalidad Rpg By Miguel Ribeiro & Sílvia Clemente is perfectly aligned with it's rpg setting. The rpg is readable, well laided out, & is a labor of love. The Wretched New Flesh - Postcards from Avalidad rpg takes Avalidad & brings it to life in a 379 page tour of a futuristically dangerous city alive with elements of the supernatural, high tech, and the dark criminal underbelly of this near future. Sure there have been other rpg other early versions of Postcards From Avalidad Post Mortem Studios.

Wretched New Flesh - Postcards from Avalidad Rpg By By Miguel Ribeiro & Sílvia Clemente is the definitive version & edition of the game. Why?! Because it features band new additional content & older supplements distilled into one game wrapped around a very Wretchploitation core. Wretched New Flesh does an excellent job of taking the Wretched engine & bringing it in line with the Postcards from Avalidad Rpg setting completely and utterly. And Wretched New Flesh PC's are generated the usual way. The rpg system is pure OSR and does a solid job of casting the PC's in Avalidad but this isn't the player's only option. Oh no they can be : Assassin, Common Citizen, Cyborg/ Transhuman, Investigator, Man of Action, Proselytizer, Psionic, Rogue and Scholar, plus the optional Conjurer. These classes fit the Earth of Wretched New Flesh. This is an Earth on the edge but the edge of what?! We're not sure, because this is a world where the weird is pronounced in spades. Cults, horrid bio technological weirdness, transhuman elements, horror, naughty nuns, gun wielding thugs, alien entities and much worse all await the PC's.

PC's level out at tenth level and they Wretched Flesh rpg incorporates a psionic & magic system in addition to the high tech weirdness of Avalidad. And so we wind up with an OSR adventure game that can handle anything from full on horror to neo Noir with little issue. Avalidad is not a place that you as a normal person want to get lost in. This is an Earth with a defined timeline going back to the Sixties so the PC's could start with Wretchploitation & end up in Avalidad. Around every corner there's the weird & the supernatural lurking and it bleeds into this reality. And we're not talking about the nice kind of supernatural here. But Hellraiser and co types ready to rip your PC's appart. And this is a theme that follows throughout the world of Avalidad. That around some corners PC's shouldn't venture. And it bleeds through into the PC's themselves. Wretched New Flesh - Postcards from Avalidad Rpg By By Miguel Ribeiro & Sílvia Clemente is a game where the PC's have secrets. And those secrets come out during play as your PC's find themselves against the powers, patrons, and weirdness that makes up the wedding cake of Avalidad itself. The Zontec organization gets a huge update as the force of the city that PC's can play or don't want to run into; "Wretched New Flesh’s setting assumes that most players will (at least) consider taking the role of ZoneSec operatives, more specifically within the black ops’ unit under the command of Clayton Reed. ZoneSec operatives enforce the role of a state police, and their mission is to protect the corporations’ assets, important personnel, and most importantly their secrets. But even within the operatives, there are different loyalties. The ‘official’ operations division is strongly aligned with the Kobayashi Corporation, whereas Clayton Reed’s secret unit answers directly to Takeda." Wretched Flesh is an OSR game where the player's PC's can have a direct impact upon the world around them completely and change it for better or worse. And this system gets a work out within the Wretched New Flesh - Postcards from Avalidad Rpg. And this is a good thing allowing domain change on a quick level of reality from the ground up. A nice quick level montage as we've seen in many classic films. This same system works for the peusdo bio Cyberpunk asthetic of Wretched New Flesh.

Wretched New Flesh - Postcards from Avalidad Rpg's Earth isn't one that we want to live in. Adventure in? Oh yes, we've got organe accumulators, psionic drugs, pleasure cyborgs, androids, and many other staples of weird science fiction. We get the Earth of ' Postcards from Avalidad' but distilled down into a usable OSR framework and it's done quite well. Where could Wretched New Flesh - Postcards from Avalidad be used?! Where couldn't it actually. If one is looking for a weird far future campaign setting for an OSR game then Wretched New Flesh - Postcards from Avalidad could easily fit the bill. Wretched New Flesh - Postcards from Avalidad Rpg is a rarity among OSR rpg's because it's actually complere unto itself. All you need are dice, players, paper, and a few sessions in and you've got a campaign going.

Now let's talk about using Wretched New Flesh - Postcards from Avalidad Rpg with other OSR systems. The one that comes to mind is actually Mutant Future as a soft post apocalptytic alternative that could be blended in with Wretched New Flesh. Dial this campaign in with Skirmisher Publications Wisdom From The Wastelands & this would be Science Fantasy campagin with years of play.

The option that comes to mind is Night Shift Veterans of The Supernatural Wars which could easily work as a supernatural basis for a complete campaign occult adventures campaign. There are in point of fact several future worlds baked into the Night Companion: A Sourcebook for Night Shift Veterans of the Supernatural Wars.

Is Wretched New Flesh - Postcards from Avalidad Rpg By Miguel Ribeiro & Sílvia Clemente worth getting?! In a word yes if your players are looking for a complete rpg that works on something akin to David Lynch mixed with Hellraiser mixed with David Cronenberg served with a light side of Cyberpunk style Blade Runner. That being said I want a physical copy as the pdf made my eyes want to bleed from three hundred & seventy nine pages of reading. Is it well worth the price of admission?! In a word, yes and is it worth your time?! Yes! Thanks for reading our review. Eric Fabiaschi Swords & Stitchery blog Want More OSR action? 'Have Death Ray, Will Travel' is by Chuck Thorin and it presents a retro futurish solar system for the White Star rpg . This is a very solid local solar system campaign and works very at what it does. And Have Death Ray, Will Travel works with the White Star rpg & the retro future campaign aspect pulls the White Star game into a solar system centric. You get enemies, monsters, pirates, and much more. Everything in 'Have Death Ray, Will Travel' is geared into getting your PC's into the adventure & campaign elements of the retro future solar system campaign setting. The brain masters are the nasties in 'Have Death Ray, Will Travel' and these alien nasties are perfect for over arching vile aliens with connections with the brain lashers of Mutant Future rpg from Goblinoid Games. ''Have Death Ray, Will Travel' is by Chuck Thorin takes the PC's across the solar system while presenting two new character classes. The new classes (Scientist and Gunfighter), within 'Have Death Ray, Will Travel' are perfect for both PC's & NPC's. These PC classes have been woven into the solar system & the adventure presented within 'Lost Mines of the Brain Masters.' The fact is that Chuck Thorin did an excellent job with 'Have Death Ray, Will Travel'. And is well worth the three dollar price point. Thanks for reading our review. Famous Characters of the Old West
Publisher: Independence Games
by Eric F. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 08/14/2022 00:42:11

"Make new friends (or enemies)!

This book features 19 famous historical characters from the Old West. Each has a full character sheet and a short biography and each is ready to be added to your Rider campaign. Meet such figures as Billy the Kid, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Jesse James, Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, and Johnny Ringo!"

"Use them as NPCs for your next Rider campaign or even as player characters in an all-star Rider campaign! Become part of the legend! "

If there's a favorite genre that the 2d6 Cepheus Engine crowd loves it's the American Old West! And why not with the amazing Rider rpg series by John Watts and Micheal Brown's Under Western Skies: 2D6 Adventure on America's Frontier. This is truly a golden age for the 2d6 American West fan like myself. Now the differences between both Rider rpg and Under Western Skies is pretty obvious to the casual Old Western rpg gamer. The Rider rpg series is built on detail and 2d6 campaign driven play. While Under Western Skies is pure 'pick up and play 2d6' action. Now while these games can be combined it might be at cross purposes depending upon the players & dungeon master's purposes. That being the case this brings me to a product that can be used with both systems and that's 'Famous Characters of the Old West' By John Watts From Independence Games. John Watts is a huge fan of the Old West and you can tell from the author's range of characters that he packs into this fifty six page book. We get a solid layout & easy on the eyes text that dives deeply into the cabilities, background, history, & skills of each of these NPC's from real world history.

Take for example the famous lawman Pat Gerrett; "Pat Garrett Strength: 9 (+1) Dexterity: 8 (+0) Endurance: 10 (+1) Intelligence: 7 (+0) Education: 5 (-1) Charisma: 8 (+0) Reputation: 9 Primary Language: English Birthdate: June 5, 1850 Draw 2 Gambler 2 Gun Combat (Revolver) 2 Investigate 2 Recon 2 Streetwise 2 Tactics (Military) 2 Advocate (Politics) 1 Animals (Riding) 1 Carouse 1 Leadership 1 Melee (Unarmed Combat) 1 Navigation 1 Persuade 1 Stealth 1 Survival (Plains) 1 Art 0 Broker 0 Patrick Floyd Garrett was born on June 5, 1850, near what is now Cusseta, Alabama. After his father, John, purchased a cotton plantation in northern Louisiana, Garrett would spend his childhood there. The Civil War would destroy the Garret family’s finances, and this would force Garrett to take work as a cowboy at the LS Ranch in west Texas in 1869. In 1875, he became a buffalo hunter. In 1878, he got into a quarrel with a fellow buffalo hunter, W. Skelton Glenn. During this disagreement, Garret killed Glenn. Garrett confessed to the killing when he returned, but he suffered no reprisals. He moved to Fort Sumner, New Mexico later in the same year and became a cowboy for Pedro Maxwell. The following year, in 1879, he would quit his cowboy work and open a saloon called “Beaver Smith’s”. It is said that it was at this point that he started gambling with and befriended Henry McCarty (aka “Billy the Kid”, see p.45). He would get married to Juanita Martiniez during this same period, but she would die only 15 days later. On January 14, 1880, he would marry Apolonia Gutierrez with whom he would have eight children." We get all of the details on Pat Garrett, & the real world history as well as it can be known at this time. And this is one of the places that both Rider & Famous Characters of the Old West excels. We get all of the good & the bad in one entry. The writing is straight forward, matter of fact, and too the point. The DM get's Garrett's history, carreer, and life's journey. Any one of these points in Garrett's life the player's PC's could encounter him for better or worse. And this is where Famous Characters of the Old West By John Watts shines because in fifty six pages it gives a fasinating grand tour of the Old West. And Famous Characters does it in a solid, easy to use, and digest way that actually works at the table top level for your 2d6 Old West needs for Cepheus Engine rpg. Thanks for reading our review. The Sisters of the Seven Sins
Publisher: The Red Room
by Eric F. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 08/13/2022 00:45:05

It's about 2:24 in the afternoon on a Sunday we're just getting back from running over at DM Steve's place. So once again, I've wandered into an ongoing OSR horror game as a dungeon master. And we made things go in a completely different direction in early 19th century Portugal. And it's been an interesting game session to say the least because of the fact that The Red Room sent me a copy of The Sisters of the Seven Sins (Wretched Version) By Miguel Ribeiro, Sílvia Clemente, & Joe Coombs. The Seven Sisters is a straight forward & well put together source book with details on the history of the convent, it's place within Portugal's history, full background, very detailed timeline and more all of course inspired by Giallo films, Pulp horror stories, and general horrific depravity. Now the PC's in this game were already in a established in a horror investigative campaign with the Wretched Époque rpg having been used since back in June now. The adventure hook here is the fact that the Vatican has called the PC's to find out what supernatual & demonic happening are going on at the convent. There's been a series of murders of victims around the convent and the locals are very disturbed. The party was made up of

DM Steve playing Major Tesla retired soldier now man of action

Judith DM Steve's wife playing Elizabeth Gumtree shaman & bohemian occult expert

Paul playing El Jaffa a thug & assassin with an interest in sorting out the murders at the convent

Tessa playing the fighting nun Sister Elsa an agent of the Vatican whose blood relative at the convent is a murder victim

Sam Tessa's boyfriend playing Merklin Akins an occultist from America visiting his ancestral home because of a family connection with the Knights Templar at the convent.

Our own version of The Sisters of the Seven Sins (Wretched Version) takes place smack in the middle of the Belle Époque period. And the sourcebook is well thoughtout with it's occult & supernatural material well laid out, and a font that is easy on the eyes. The investigators began with the murder scenes and progressed quickly with the PC's falling into the middle of a hallucination created by the demonic activity at the convent. This hallucination happened to El Jaffa & Major Tesla. And while it didn't harm the PC's it rattled them quite nicely. Sister Elsa had a quiet and quite dangerous interview with one of the priests and here's where The Sisters of the Seven Sins shines because the NPC's are so nicely laid out. We get a sense that there's been a lot of care taken with each of the write ups and profiles.

Elizabeth Gumtree wandered into one of the convent courtyards & had a ghostly encounter with one of the victims who nearly took off her head. It was only the timely save by Merklin Akins banished the ghost back to Hell. Merklin & Elizabeth headed into the convent's record room to do some research. They met up with the convent's keeper of records. The party regrouped in the record room & backed off of the investigation for the evening. The party regrouped in town for the moment & we ended the session here.

The Sisters of the Seven Sins (Wretched Version) By Miguel Ribeiro, Sílvia Clemente, & Joe Coombs is a one hundred & thirty six page adventure & resource book that details a very dangerous & horrid convent. The whole supplement could be used with any OSR investigative horror rpg easily. And on the whole feels like an extensive campaign & I do mean extensive! The The Sisters of the Seven Sins feels like partially a giallo fim adventure with elements of Hellraiser, Argento, and more with touches of other classic Pulp works. The Sisters of the Seven Sins (Wretched Version) is wall to wall adult themes, fictional hersies, weird supernatural horror, and other icky details so this one is not for the kiddies. But is The Sisters of the Seven Sins (Wretched Version) By Miguel Ribeiro, Sílvia Clemente, & Joe Coombs well done?! Oh very much so! Thanks for reading our review & session report Want more OSR action?! Please subscribe to https://swordsandstitchery.blogspot.com/

Centaur Race
Publisher: James Mishler Games
by Eric F. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 08/03/2022 06:06:24

"This booklet contains all the information you need to create a centaur player character for Labyrinth Lord or Advanced Labyrinth Lord (and is easily adaptable to other OSR systems). Details include both a centaur race and a centaur racial class, as well as information on creating centaur bands and camps. 12 pages (6 pages of content)."

So lately over the last three weeks we've been looking into possibly going back to OSRIC as a possible alternative OSR retroclone rules set. And one of my players has expressed a more then a passing interest in using a Centaur PC. And that's when it struck me James Mishler Games sent me a copy of the Centaur Race by James & Jodie Moran Mishler. Centaurs have certain connotations within Advanced Dungeons & Dragons first edition games as Dragon magazine paints them in solid Sylvan & Fey terms. James Mishler keeps this set of expections; "Centaurs are a sylvan race of forest and meadow. They tend to be atavistic and live in primal harmony with nature, abiding with dryads, nymphs, satyrs, treants, and other woodland folk and creatures. They tend to eschew contact with non-sylvan, non-fairy races, preferring to live in woodland and meadows in the wilds. Generally, males are wandering warrior-hunters while females are gatherers and gardeners who tend to the young. Males are also known for being wild and violent, especially when confronted with anything from the outside world; they sometimes raid settlements, especially for wine, which they consume with much gusto" The Centaur racial type or PC class or race could easily be adapted into OSRIC with little issue allowing the race to become a part of are campaigns.

My beat up copy of OSRIC

The Centaur Race By James Mishler, & Jodi Moran-Mishler puts down the details into twelve pages. No more & no less except for the fact that we also get details on information on creating centaur bands and camps. These bands could be perfectly aligned for creating violent & far more dangerous NPC centaur raiders or brigands. These centaurs are often raiders who give into the more chaotic & violent tendencies of their Slyvan nature. The Centaur Race from James Mishler Games centers its subject matter and focuses itself on only on the PC essentials & little else. And this appeals to the player from the ground up. Wretched New Flesh - Postcards from Avalidad Quickstart
Publisher: The Red Room
by Eric F. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 07/23/2022 10:53:05

"This is a near-future sci-fi/ surreal horror game inspired by the works of William S. Burroughs, David Cronenberg, William Gibson, and Clive Barker. The game setting is centred on Avalidad, a futuristic city in Morocco, where corporations have been conducting research in genetics, cybernetics, augmented and virtual reality, and biotechnology. By default, characters are expected to be ZoneSec operatives (a mix between law-enforcement agency and state police) or executives for Takeda Technologies (one of the most relevant corporations in Avalidad), but other roles such as Avalidad’s celebrities, fiscal royalty and seedy underbelly are also possible."

“in the magical universe there are no coincidences and there are no accidents. nothing happens unless someone wills it to happen” ― William S Burroughs Wretched New Flesh Postcards from Avalidad Quick Start, is such a place and it's a dangerous one.

So this morning in my mailbox was a copy of Wretched New Flesh Postcards from Avalidad Quick Start, which is the updated & expanded version of Postcards from Avalidad. Now for the past several months Postcards from Avalidad has been a part of one of our 2d6 campaigns paired with Zozer Games Zaibatzu rpg. And this combination has been highly successful at the table top level. Flash forward & now we've Wretched New Flesh Postcards from Avalidad Quick Start, & things have been heating up. Wretched New Flesh Postcards from Avalidad Quick Start, clocks in at ninety four pages of well thoughtout surrealist bio cyberpunk with a touch of 70's Orwellian Science Fictional elements mixed with occultism & dangerous simmering elemements of the supernatural thrown in. Wretched New Flesh Postcards from Avalidad Quick Start, uses the tried & true Wretched system to bring the bastards into Avalidad. It's a solid little OSR style of rpg engine & it works quite nicely! The Wretched New Flesh rpg generates PC's quickly, uniquely, and with little fuss with an OSR twist. And then there's the details on Avalidad a city that seems erriely familar to David Chroninberg fans, and those who have read Clive Barker, or William S. Burrough's works. Things, events, & people in Avalidad are balanced in a lens of water in other words very weird. And that's fine because Avalidad is a city on the edge of the Earth.

And Wretched New Flesh is an rpg that set's out to set the characters up in the world of Avalidad and does it so well & quickly! And this is one of it's main draws for me as a DM. Get the players into the action in less then 15 minutes and start playing! And Wretched New Flesh uses the Wretched engine very well and the quickstart has all of the basics needed to get the PC's into the middle of the post Avalidad action well. There are all of the usual rpg elements for the PC's equipment, weaponry, the golden advice that the Red Room is known for. And more! Because the Wretched New Flesh Postcards from Avalidad Quick Start Rpg is OSR it's easy to get the experienced players & the beginners into the mix of a basic game right off the bat. The whole package is well thoughtout & has a very solid mix of rpg elements thrown into it. Thanks for reading out review. Eric Fabiaschi Swords & Stitchery Want more OSR content? Fairies Fair and Foul Vol. 01
Publisher: James Mishler Games
by Eric F. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 07/19/2022 11:37:05

James Mishler Games produces some excellent supplements Fairies Fair and Foul Vol. 01 By James Mishler, & Jodi Moran-Mishler From Mishler Games is no exception. This product runs the gammit from fairies of sorta good strip to Fey born straight from the nightmares of peasants.

Fact is that Fairies Fair and Foul Vol. 01 By James Mishler, & Jodi Moran-Mishler From Mishler Games has a solid inclusion of monsters scattered among the Fey; "The fairies included herein are not necessarily based on myths and legends, taking merely inspiration from the name and possibly inspiration from myths and legends. Some are created from whole cloth, much as many of the names of fairies in the Denham Tracts most likely were.

Rest assured, they will challenge your players with new and interesting encounters!

This first volume includes seven new types of fairies:

The Alholde Fairy – A household fairy who only the rich and powerful can afford.

The Fairy Apparition – A creature literally born of fairy nightmares!

The Banshee Fairy – Wicked fairies all too… keen… on avenging themselves on all other life!

The Barguest Fairy – A greedy beast of a fairy who toys with his enemies like a cat does a mouse…

The Black Dog Fairy – Guardians at the crossroads between the Fairy and Mortal worlds.

The Black Bug Fairy – Mortals should be careful when they wish upon a star, as they never know who might be listening…

The Bloody Bones Fairy – These traitorous fairies have lost their heads… but a little setback like that would never stop them. Just don’t lose your head when you encounter them…

Seven new fairies – Mostly wicked and foul, in this run."

Each of these seven Fey has both a benefit & bane attached to them in Fairies Fair and Foul Vol. 01. These Fey have this dual side to them which makes them more then simple monsters & pushes them into the realm of NPC's. This makes them very useful for both old school & OSR games, take for example Lamentations of the Flame Princess where 'Fairies Fair and Foul Vol. 01' could be used for something completely different as an adventure pivot point. And for a game such as Adventurer, Conqueror, King rpg Fairies Fair and Foul Vol. 01 could add in some very different elements when a Fey such as these is in control of a certain domains & areas. Some of these such as Fairy Apparition could become a real problem for a ruler or even a thieves guild as they make an area completely off limits to a gang of outlaws. Other Fey such as the banshee fairy could become a force of vengence against an entire royal line or even a wizard's family. For Castles & Crusades Fairies Fair and Foul Vol. 01 are perfect for the sort of adventure fodder that players would not be expecting. This is especially true of the Black Bug Fairy which could if used correctly could make a party of adventurer's lives a bit of a Hell with a small 'h'. This thing has all of the hallmarks of a min teir Fey encounter that is both horror and humorous applications. The Bloody Bones Fairy is another Fey that could become the focal point for an entire series of adventures encounters. These Fey have some very dangerous abilities that they can bring to play. Another Fey with numerous applications is the Barguest Fairy which could become the center point of a family curse adventure or other supernatural serial murder style adventures. A very dangerous Fey if used right. For the price Fairies Fair and Foul Vol. 01 brings great value to the table as fodder for both your OSR or old school campaigns. Thanks for reading our review. Port of Entry: Starports in Clement Sector
Publisher: Independence Games
by Eric F. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 07/14/2022 13:51:38

So via our email came 'Port of Entry Starports In The Clement Sector' From Independence Games. Sweet mother of God this is a huge 200 page pdf of a book. 'Port of Entry Starports In The Clement Sector' is a key book & tool kit for the Clement Sector rpg as the introduction states; "As the introductory quote states, starports are an integral part of the make-up of Clement Sector. Starports are the places where imports arrive, exports leave, people come and go, and communications arrive and are sent. Almost all the settled worlds in Clement Sector have ports and this includes the restrictive governments and worlds which try to have minimal contact with other planets. Starports come in many different types and can be a massive orbital structure or a flat piece of land cleared of obstacles. In this section, we will cover the different types of starports as a form of introduction."

Port of Entry Starports In The Clement Sector is a key book clocking in at over 200 pages of 2d6 Clement Sector rpg goodness. There's extensive rules here for generating, creating, and maintaining every type of star port, station, and trade zone within the blackness of the Clement sector. And by God if this book doesn't remind me of the early 19th century fur trading forts & outposts of North America. Extensive nodes of civilization scattered against the blackness of the wilds of the frontiers of the Clement Sector. Port of Entry Starports In The Clement Sector by John Watts, Michael Johnson, and Tony Hicks writing is dialed in with everything dialed into the generation of these oasises amid the blackness of the Clement sector. The artwork by Ian Stead is on point as usual and the rest of the book is certainly up to Independence Games standards. The rules here are swift, well done, and have that new Cepheus Engine rpg smell about them plugging into the Space Western motif very well. Every aspect of starport & station design is covered extensively in vivid detail. Port of Entry Starports In The Clement Sector reads like both a general supplement for the Clement Sector rpg but also a very straight forward set of rules for designing your own star ports for your 2d6 campaigns! The real shine of Port of Entry Starports In The Clement Sector is within the design, selection, and refinement of tradition statport design. Port of Entry Starports In The Clement Sector feels like a solid set of rules for bring home the idea of star ports being home to adventure at every turn. Or the fact that the PC's starport may indeed be their extensive home away from home ports. Every aspect of the starport as adventure point is explored within the pages of Port of Entry Starports In The Clement Sector. And many of these rules would also work very well with the Earth sector rpg system. The rules make generating your own star ports fun, random, and very acessible for the average DM to get running threir own star port based adventures! This makes Port of Entry Starports In The Clement Sector a must have for those who want to run any adventure centered around their own campaign's starports! Thanks for reading our review! Resort of the Dead
Publisher: The Red Room
by Eric F. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 07/11/2022 18:45:07

"All around, there are pristine beaches, crystal clear waters, lovely cafes and restaurants, drunken Brits, sunburnt,(nearly overcooked, Germans, and obnoxious American tourists complaining, in broken Spanish, to the lazy-ass Portuguese manager about some minor issue, such as the room's TV set not working properly during the Armageddon. We do understand Spanish, by the way, but it's not our native language. Just to make that clear!"

The free Torralba Resort Brochure (Resort of the Dead handout) came in very handy in tonight's game.

"Anyway, we are here to provide you with the perfect spot to be killed by zombies. Well, not that perfect; the Torralba resort has seen much better days. But at least it's cheap. However, we'll screw you over the restaurant bill, and watch out for those cab drivers, too; they'll rip you off. Welcome to sunny Portugal, have fun being devoured by the undead hordes. You'll have the time of your (u)nlife!"

Resort of the Dead By Miguel Ribeiro, Sílvia Clemente, & Joe Coombs is a zombie apocalypse waiting to happen or to be sprung on your OSR campaigns as needed. Resort of the Dead is actually laid out for The Wretchploitation Rpg. but it works very hard as a decent OSR zombie adventure. And its vicious little OSR horror romp. And dropping the PC's into the horror mix waiting to happen was interesting from a DM perspective. As the play was interesting as the player's PC's were figuring out the rumors about the cocaine, & the gold within the hotel's vaults ( this is my invention but it moved things along quick).

Resort of the Dead takes the zombie end of the world adventure into a beach front adventure with lots of other undead besides the hordes of the undead. Mutated hell spawn can be randomly encountered by the PC's in this fifty three page adventure. Resort of the Dead is a mid level adventure because of three factors:1. The amount of NPC's that the players can interact with or who will fall victim to the zombification later on,2. The expansive mini campaign setting that is Resort of the Dead, & 3. the amount & variety of undead that the PC's will be facing. Resort of the Dead has a high recycle factor for OSR adventuring & this is born out by the fact that this adventure could also be used to introduce new NPC's from The Wretchploitation Rpg into other OSR games. A fact that was sprung on me in the middle of Resort of the Dead when a replacement PC was simply inserted as another guest quite easily. Something else that occurred to me tonight running Resort of the Dead tonight is the fact it would be quite easy to use the module in other OSR setting such as Goblinoid Games Mutant Future rpg. Why?! Because right after the zombie apocalpyse starts mutations could easily start happening by whatever triggered the undead state of the world. Even if the campaign setting in Resort of the Dead happened to the world and we move ten years down the road. The set up could work with zombies & mutants on the same world. Personally after running Resort of the Dead I think it's well worth the four dollar download. Thanks for reading our review! Eric Fabiaschi Swords & Stitchery blog Want More OSR content?! Ashen Void
Publisher: Underworld Kingdom
by Eric F. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 06/29/2022 01:02:33

"Ashen Void - a system-neutral Dark Fantasy campaign setting."

"Welcome to the arid, mysterious world plagued by trans-planar monsters known as the Angels. You won't find any rules here, nor any concrete information that must be used. Everything is presented in form of lists and random tables, to help you flesh out your own version of the world - or to allow smooth transplantation of ideas to your game."

Ashen Void is twisted in all of the right ways, this is a stat free & totally random set of tables about a world plagued with trans-planar monsters known as the Angels. Ashen Void is a hard one to pin down as this is a totally free & randomly generated world with tables dealing with everything from giants, ruins, wastelands, towns, etc. all totally random. And there are so many random tables but this is a good thing & we'll get to that. Albert has a long history with the OSR through his World of Ortix blog here. There is so much A.I. generated artwork by Albert Rakowski that its a bit distractiong at times. Yes, believe me I get the trend with the Mork Borg rpg setting up the background artwork & the distracting fonts. Fortunately there's very little of that in Ashen Void. Instead in Ashen Void we get random tables to generate entire campaign evirons, dungeons, monsters, and much more. This customization of randomness is going to keep players on their toes. And this consistant with random table after table of well everything in Ashen Void & this is done on purpose according to the author's introduction; "In this book you will f ind the outline of a setting that has been growing in my mind for the last few years. Or maybe even longer, as it began somewhere between 2011 and 2013. All rules are presented in a very vague way to make the game as system neutral as possible. They should be compatible with virtually any OSR ruleset. Nothing that is described here should be treated as an element necessary for the setting’s coherence. That’s because nothing is coherent here - it’s just a toolkit for you to use, either to include in your own campaign" And what a tool kit! Ashen Void does a Lot of the heavy lifting for the DM to create their own OSR or Science Fantasy setting from scratch. With a handful of dice & Ashen Void the DM can create world after world of good solid gaming material from the ether of imagination. In eighty eight pages Ashen Void manages to accomplish campaign material that other supplements take page after page to explain. And it's all at the DM's whim. All in all it's really hard to put a rating on Ashen Void because of what it randomly does & how it does it. But Ashen Void is a solid addition to a DM's tool kit regardless of their genre of choice. Ashen Void fits the OSR very well with it being perfect for Mutant Future, Lamentations of the Flame Princess, Mork Borg, or any other of the original OSR titles. It would also be perfect for orignal Dungeons & Dragons. Ashen Void is perfect as a campaign setting for any 2d6 rpg and I'm looking at any of the Cepheus Engine games here. This is especially true of Sword of Cepheus, Cepheus lite, Barbaric, or any of the other 2d6 powered system. Wretched Époque
Publisher: The Red Room
by Eric F. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 06/25/2022 01:23:06

Wretched Époque takes place in the period known as the Belle Époque. This is the time and the fictional place where Umberto Eco's Simone Simonini crosses paths with Jacques Tardi's Adèle Blanc-Sec, Edgar Allan Poe's Chevalier Auguste Dupin and Maurice Leblanc's Arsène Lupin, amidst anarchist bombings, the echoes of the Dreyfus affair, the catastrophic side effects of secret societies conspiring in the shadows and the mysterious results of experiences conducted by mad geniuses. Not yet pulp, not quite historical, it is neither the right time nor the right mood for Steampunk or Dieselpunk. Welcome to the wretched times of Nouveaupunk!"

"Wretched Époque includes:

  • OSR rules for playing fin-de-siécle anti-heroes (expanded Wretched rules for sanity and mesmerism)
  • Information about fictional and real-world secret societies, cults and conspiracies
  • Plenty of villains, among them criminal masterminds, mad scientists, mythical beasts and Lovecraftian abominations
  • The Apache Underworld and Parisian law enforcement of the late 19th century, as foes or allies to the characters
  • The Beyond, origin of all supernatural menaces in the Wretched universe
  • Timeline and guide to the Arrondissements of Paris in the Belle Époque""

Wretched Époque rpg By Miguel Ribeiro, Sílvia Clemente, Joe Coombs from The Red Room. Covers a very specific period of French almost but not quite Pulp literature pre WWI according to its own introduction;"Wretched Époque takes place in the period known as the Belle Époque, which is dated between 1871 and 1914, ending when World War I started." Wretched Époque rpg covers both PC heroes & anti hero of these French pieces of literature that takes the Wretched Bastards rpg system & then mates it to a modern OSR undercarriage. The Wretched Époque rpg is fun & very well thought out in two hundred seventeen pages. Wretched Époque rpg plays up it's criminal elements of gangs, the underworld, the political climate, and more with a twist of mad science.

There's a good balance within the Wretched Époque rpg from the Pulp elements into the fast paced weirdness & violence of the Wretched rpg system. Your PC's could be the villains finding themselves among them criminal masterminds, mad scientists, mythical beasts and Lovecraftian abominations. And its this combination of a party of players finding themselves at the throats of Pulp criminal masterminds one day, fighting the French underworld, and then moving toward the Lovecraftian horrors at the center of Paris. The layout of the Wretched Époque rpg is well done, the equipment list is extremely well done, details on the world of the Wretched Époque rpg is really solid. Gotta say that I've been really surprised reading through the Wretched Époque rpg and how good the quality of it really is. At $10.50 for two hundred and fifteen pages the Wretched Époque rpg is actually really well done. And given the fact that the Wretched Époque rpg is OSR compatible means that this rpg system could theoritcally be used with a DM's other OSR systems.

The overall feel of the Wretched Époque rpg is a step beyond the rest of the Wretched catalog that the Red Room has done. The Pulp elements of the Wretched Époque rpg capture its literature, source material, & feel of the time period where the blend of heroes & anti heroes blurs unto themselves. While the line between good & evil is here, it's one that get's moved completely around as the Wretched Époque rpg sees fit. And that's one of the strengths of the Wretched Époque rpg in spades taking a point of the French literature and films unto itself. This captures the wild abandoned, absolute Hell, and yet civilized order that this time period evokes within the game's history. The Wretched Époque rpg does take its subject matter seriously and yet it game play seems to be very well done indeed! by Eric F. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 06/19/2022 22:32:46

"Terra Arisen is a space-opera setting for the Cepheus Deluxe sci-fi RPG rules. Terra Arisen introduces player characters to the immediate aftermath of the Terran Liberation War against the mighty Reticulan Empire and its many thralls. The Terrans forced the Reticulan Empire to sign a humiliating peace treaty and reluctantly accept Terran independence from the Empire. The upstart Terrans, bolstered by their victory against their old masters, are becoming a power to be reckoned with in interstellar affairs. On a backdrop of espionage, maneuvering, and saber-rattling on new interstellar frontiers, bold player characters can leave their marks as heroes or villains of the new United Terran Republic (UTR). This book provides background information, a 16 by 20 hex star-map covering most of the UTR and some alien territory, and write-ups of all 120 major worlds in this area, as well as other materials necessary to run a science fiction roleplaying campaign in the exciting times of the 23rd century."

This book contains:

History and background material for 23rd century Terra and the larger universe.

Corporations, political parties, and illegal groups – both Terran and alien.

4 major alien species and several minor ones – all detailed!

Rules for generating and playing characters from 5 alien species.

7 alien Careers and 5 Terran ones - from psionic Reticulan Nobles to the heroic Terran Guard!

Character generation rules and event tables for all included careers.

2 small craft and 5 starships with full game statistics and high-res deck plans.

The Terran Quadrant, including 120 detailed worlds and a high-res star map.

A detailed adventure chapter with a wide variety of hooks for exciting adventures in Terran and alien space!

Note that this book provides character generations, biological and cultural background, and flying saucers (!) for playing Gray Aliens – ready to drop into any Cepheus Deluxe campaign and quite compatible with other 2d6 sci-fi RPGs as well!

This setting requires the Cepheus Deluxe rules for use."

Terra Arisen Rpg Campaign Setting By Omer Golan-Joel, Richard Hazlewood, & Josh Peters is one of those space opera's there's far more bubbling below the surface then at first it seems. The Terra Arisen setting is perfectly suited for the Cepheus Deluxe rules. Terra Arisen takes on humanity & it's alien allies rising up against their Reticulan oppressors in a series of rebellions that ultimately results in the establishment of the Terrran Quadrant.

Terra Arisen is a two hundred & eleven page book that wears its history, alien cultures, & background on it's sleeve. And in Terra Arisen these factors colours your PC's life events, careers, and other 2d6 Cepheus Deluxe rules & rolls during character creation. And this applies across the board for the aliens and the humans. This isn't exactly a Reticulan friendly game per say as the later generations of the hybrids and full blood Reticulans have come to question their own ancient empire's practices. And Terra Arisen is a thinking DM's campaign setting with ton's of potential for the player's to step onto the interstellar stage of old sectors of the Reticulan Empires. Now in the hands of the their former slave races both human & alien. While Terra Arisen seems very woven into it's own campaign setting with its history, politics, sciences, technologies, etc. the setting is a fun one with plenty of opportunities for military campaigns, interstellar merchant hi jinks, and much more all baked into the Cepheus Deluxe rules powered setting. Terra Arisen is a solid addition to the world of Cepheus Engine powered rules. The interstellar's scene is interesting. The ideas here are smartly done. And Terra Arisen is a campagin setting is one that can do a wide variety of play styles. The playground of the former Reticulan empire populated by their former client races is one of recent military victories. But the interstellar parts & pieces still very much dangerous and not necessarily nice at all. Terra Arisen is a complex & multi dimensional interstellar political & unsettle frontier with its own rules, alien races, & wild edge bubbling just below the surface. Terra Arisen has some solidly done starships and the interior artwork is a mix of Pulp & Science Fictional styles that works for the 2d6 asthetic of the Cepheus Deluxe rules powered material. The layout is crisp, easy to read, & ready to play. Terra Arisen is a campaign for the Cepheus Deluxe rules that is waiting to be played & played well. Terra Arisen is a excellent addition to the the Cepheus Deluxe rules line of supplements & I for one can't wait to see the next line in the Terra Arisen family of books. Terra Arisen is a five outta of five for creativity, ulility, & actual usefulness at the table top level. Thanks for reading our review Eric Fabiaschi Swords & Stitchery blog Want more OSR goodness?! Shortcuts to Adventure #1: Shrine of the Slime God
Publisher: James Mishler Games
by Eric F. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 06/05/2022 12:17:32

So Shortcuts to Adventure #1: Shrine of the Slime God came across my email tonight from Mishler Games. And it's just in time for this weekend's Castles & Crusades game that I'm supposed to be running. And its

"The first Shortcut to Adventure is the Shrine of the Slime-God. Here horrible Chaotic and Evil priests and cultists come to worship the Demon-Prince of Slime. Here they store their treasures when they return home and hide in obscurity among their Lawful, Goodly neighbors… but they do not leave these treasures unguarded!"

"Designed for a party of 4th to 6th level adventurers, this adventure can easily be adjusted to higher or lower levels by altering the mix and number of monsters present."

Adventure #01: Shrine of the Slime God By James Mishler and Jodi Moran-Mishler is a perfect small dungeon with a big adventure hook for levels four to sixth level adventurers. And this is really significant for the fact that despite the small page count. Shrine of the Slime God is a majorly deadly dungeon perfect for a weekend set up and play. Shrine of the Slime God a perfectly suited mini dungeon to drag & drop into your favorite urban campaign landscape. And this brings up the fact that because shrine is a mini dungeon that its perfect to drop into this weekend's Greyhawk Castles & Crusades game. Why?! Because the demon prince of slime is throw back to the Greyhawk city or Greyhawk ruins setting. There's just enough material within Adventure #01: Shrine of the Slime God By James Mishler and Jodi Moran-Mishler to throw into an ongoing game and keep the players on their toes.

Shortcuts to Adventure #01: Shrine of the Slime God By James Mishler and Jodi Moran-Mishler comes in at eight pages. And as an adventure it works quite perfectly for a Friday or Saturday evening OSR or old school games. The layout within this module is well done. The cartography of the Shortcuts to Adventure #01: Shrine of the Slime God By James Mishler and Jodi Moran-Mishler is simple direct & does exactly what it says on the tin. For C&C this is an excellent little mini dungeon to introduce the slime prince of demons to your players. And here's where C&C's Tome of The Unclean comes in handy to really bring home a few more details about the demon prince of slime.

Shortcuts to Adventure #01: Shrine of the Slime God By James Mishler and Jodi Moran-Mishler is reasonably priced. Easily to add into existing campaigns & works very well to bring home the goodness of the demon prince of slime! Thanks for reading our review Eric Fabiaschi Swords & Stitchery Want More OSR action?! Lance-class Gunboat
Publisher: Independence Games
by Eric F. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 06/05/2022 11:08:58

"The Lance-class is a 300-ton Royal Navy gunboat that revived the concept of a gunboat. Armed with a 50-ton particle beam spinal mount and a railgun barbette, the Lance had the capability to be a serious threat to larger warships. The Lance was used by the British to defend their colonial holdings in Earth Sector and inspired several nations to come up with their own versions of these powerful little vessels."

"Together with a purpose constructed interstellar capable gunboat carrier, the Maidstone-class, this allowed the Royal Navy to deploy up to six Lance-class gunboats to any system in which it was needed. This allowed for enormous flexibility and was a novel concept at a time where carriers were beginning to be considered by some navies to be an obsolete concept in space."

"This book comes complete with full deckplans and statistics for both the Lance and the Maidstone to make your use of our product simple, easy, and fun. In addition, the book includes some excellent fiction by author Bradley Warnes."

"Though specifically designed for our Clement Sector setting, the Lance and the Maidstone can be imported into any science fiction setting with little effort."

"Climb aboard! Adventure awaits!"

Lance-class Gunboat By Michael Johnson, & Bradley Warnes is a very solid sixty one page supplement for old school Traveller & the Earth Sector rpg. Here the Lance-class Gunboat is really featured right out of the gate. The Lance class Gunboat isn't the first sort of ship that one thinks of when it comes to interstellar adventure. But these boats see themselves into the thick of the fray in many battles & there aftermaths. The fact that these gun boats are often embroiled in the affairs & battles of the Clement sector makes them excellent foils for Cepheus Engine rpg adventure especially in the Clement sector rpg. And it's this aspect of the gunboat that makes them perfectly suited to a small party of crew that find themselves in trouble & battles more oftern then not. This is also true of the Lance Class gun boats even unto their development; " At the same time various designs for a new uprated patrol boat (that later evolved into the Lance-class gunboat) were being examined by the Royal Navy, the Admiralty Board requested expressions of interest for a Zimm capable carrier of no more than two and a half thousand displacement tonnes that could deploy a full six boat squadron. The carrier design tender took longer to resolve and even longer to decide which design was preferable. Eventually though, a design was chosen and construction of the first of the three carriers to be ordered was commenced in 2208. " From busting up space piracy, interstellar smuggling, human trafficking, etc. the Lance class gunboat is going to be where the action is! This is especially true of the tech update 2350 which goes over the roles of star ship in the Clement Sector. The role of the Lance Class Gunboat reminds me of the Iron Clads during the American Civil War.

The attention to detail in the design of the Lance Class Gunboat is reflected in the fiction of Bradley Warnes and Michel Johnson's writing. There's more then enough adventure hooks if the Lance class gunboat is used in a Cepheus Engine campaign. The deadliness of these ships is not to be underestimated within a Clement or Earth Sector campaign. The Lance-class Gunboat By Michael Johnson, & Bradley Warnes is solidly done & would make an excellent addition to any Cepheus Engine or Old School Traveller rpg campaign.
