The Cainite Conspiracies Anthology

I did not find this book to be an enjoyable experience. For some reason, WW-based products have always made fantastic gaming books rich with plot and characters, yet that hasn't translated into compelling novels. I have read a number of them to get at metaplot details not covered in the books, but at best they've been passably entertaining. This short story collection is the same, with the added problem of numerous spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors. The reading experience was jarring for all the errors I encountered, and it didn't help that most of the stories just weren't that interesting or well-written. Justin Achili's short story was a nice, nasty little thing. The Salubri story made me very excited, until I made progress in it, and by the end I wish it hadn't been written at all. The Baali story was good, though. The others were bland at best. Would not recommend this collection.

V20 Beckett's Jyhad Diary

This is a cool book with lots of metaplot development, and that's an area where the Vampire series always shined. I can't say I like all of the developments, and sometimes the reading is physically difficult due to the font and format of the book (ie, hand scribbles on varying types of paper notes with busy backgrounds, a lot going on in the page). Still worth a read.

This was a great read and so much more compelling a setting than the 2nd Ed AD&D adaptation. When I play in Mystara, I use this version. The characters are more three-dimensional, the ethnic tensions between Thyatians and Traladarans are more real, and the adventure hooks are groovy.

This book does a great job of painting a complete picture of a different society than the standard medieval European fantasy setting. Ylaurum feels very lived in, and the adventure ideas are crammed in here. Would highly recommend.

If you can only buy 1 RPG book ever, get this one, because it literally covers EVERYTHING you need in an RPG. Even though I play 5e now, I still use this for systems reference, especially when it comes to domain creation and management and mass battle systems.

GAZ10 The Orcs of Thar (Basic)

This book shocked me with how funny it was, in addition to being an excellent write-up on a little explored section of Mystara. It also has interesting and useful game systems in it, for exampled making humanoid classes. Unlike Night Howlers (where you can play werecreatures) which requires ridiculous amounts of XP to even reach level 1, the humanoids are far better balanced and playable. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
