DM Review: I ran this for my players just a few moments ago and had a great time. The NPCs involved have lots of opportunity to roleplay, and there's a lot of details that we just didn't get the chance to hit, but it was there should I want to play up various interactions.

The encounters were interesting, and the players really enjoyed the reference in the ending combat.

The art is fun, I enjoyed having the tokens, that was a very nice touch. I run on a VTT, so it saved me effort, but it also helps with the story since it's a consistant art style. I wish there were tokens for the ships NPCs, even though they aren't being fought, I just LOVED having tokens, and I'd love having more. So, thank you for including them! (the cover is awesome, too, that cover actually being an illustration from the adventure is excellent.)

I enjoyed having the painter in the encounter, for whateve reason I leaned into the RP with that guy, and ... Just having him there painting during the final battle was fun!

The adventure ran short, which is not a criticism at all. For an adventure with so many social pieces, and for an adventure with so much of an open-ended way of running, short means that you're not going to go over your schedule if you have it work differently a different week. (We had a pretty solid 3 hours, but I tend to be a little shorter with my RP when I run online, as opposed to what I run in-person). When I run it again, because I will, I know that I don't have to worry about going long for the RP, which is nice.

Definitely enjoyed this adventure, saved it in a compendium in Foundry so that I can run it again. :)

(also a side note: I did enjoy the layout, looks like you did something a bit different than the default template, was curious what you used, since I'm always looking for how to better lay these out on my own.)

Glad you enjoyed it! The template is the standard AL layout with a modification to the "Adjusting the Encounter" blocks. I dislike having to solve word-math problems as a DM, so I break each encounter down by Very Weak/Weak/Normal/Strong/Very Strong and put in the specifics for the full encounter at that difficulty. I also add an appendix with a Bestiary, because I like having tokens and minis for games, and it makes it easy to grab what I need in prep.

DM Review: My experience in running this adventure is that it hits the mark of a well rounded and relaxed adventure. The crew of the ship give the DM the opportunity to voice several interesting characters. The mission aboard the ship gives the players clear direction and focus. At no point did the players get stumped or were lost for what to do. The action unfolds before them, providing plenty of opportunity for each character to shine. The situations that the players encounter are not confronting, daunting or confusing. Every episode of this adventure is clear, and provides the engaging setting of a voyage through the Astral Sea. The players enjoyed the mix of situations that they encountered. We ran two combats which provided some variety. The players weren't quite sure when a combat would occur, which is a good thing. The combats were interesting and lasted several rounds each.

What it's not: The adventure is obviously not wall to wall combat, and none of the encounters are overly challenging. There is no horror here or deadly traps.

Module Review: I found plenty of scope for improvement with the writing, but this did not detract from running the adventure, so I won't deduct any stars for that. There has been work put into this module, and there are positive and helpful aspects that support the DM. Rolling on the d100 salvage table is a fun aspect of the module. The character reward sheet is very useful as a handout. The module is missing content warnings, for example, slavery is one.

Thanks for a great adventure and a fun game!

Thanks for the review! If there's any parts of the writing or organization you feel could be improved, please let me know, I'm always looking to become a better adventure author and make my adventures more easily prepped and run by DMs. I hadn't thought about a slavery content warning. I had to pull up the adventure and find where it would have come up. And you're right, while it isn't part of the adventure, one of the NPCs history does mention slavery. Good catch, I'll see about adding some warnings.

This is a great tier 2 adventure steeped in D&D meta humor. I was quite astonished at how easy to read and run this adventure was. It honestly leaves me wondering if other authors take pains to make their work inscrutable.

The format is great. There’s tons of box text, and all of the information about the NPCs is in their description box; no additional details hidden in the dramatis personae or in later reveals. The most impressive feature however is the encounter tables. The author lays out each encounter in a table, with separate lines for each party strength. Exactly which monsters and how many is explicitly spelled out for each party strength! None of this subtract this and add that nonsense that the other adventures use. I didn’t know that authors were allowed to make encounter tables straightforward and easy to read!

The junk collecting minigame is also really well written. The players get to pick from a bunch of different skill rolls and there’s guidance for rewarding the use of expendable resources. The salvage table is also just freaking hilarious! It is the only d100 table I have ever seen that actually has 100 entries, and all of them are well thought out, and many of them are quite funny. A lot of D&D meta humor.

This adventure is tons of fun to run. Steal this dude's format. Every adventure should be written like this!

Had an excellent time playing this as a one shot. Our party was reasonably diverse (fighter, cleric, warlock and rogue) and we walked away wonderfully bloodied having expended most spell slots and our usual level 5 goodies, so I'd say its well balanced.

The cultural references are hilarious and work very well with the theme. I won't spoil too much, but the party also had the most fun with the noncombat activities! They really added to the flavor of the module without bogging down the flow of the session.

I highly recommend it to anyone planning a light hearted one shot or as a side adventure. Well done!
