Review of the print on demand softcover for OSRIC 2nd Edition: First, the shipping speed was great. The item arrived sooner than expected in great condition. I was pleased with how it was tightly packaged in cardboard. The print quality is fantastic. However, only one minor complaint. The font-size is tiny! This is probably the smallest font I've seen in a rule book ever. It's understandable considering how compact the book is. I was expecting small type. Though honestly not as small as this. In short, hope your vision is good. So, I can't recommend this print on demand for people who may have less than perfect eye sight. Other than that this is a 10/10.

This is the perfect set of rules for players that already know how to play D&D 5e, mostly like the core rules of that system, but want a much simpler game and deadlier game. There are some creative new twists on those rules like real time torches and rolling on a table when you level up. You may love those ideas. You may hate them. These rules aren't for me, but this is a really great system.

What a breath of fresh air! This is by far my favourite rules light system I've both read and used. You can hold all the game rules in your head. It was easy to teach the game to my wife before we played a short adventure together. I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to run a one player adventure because the Karma and Hero Dice systems give characters a few ways to avoid bad rolls that could cause an early death. Those game mechanics are fun for players too. One of the problems with most other systems is that players that want to play wizards often have to waste a lot of time reading lists of spells before they even create a character. The spell system here is both simple and elegant. It's as easy to create a wizard or a warrior. The character creation rules strike a nice balance between quick character creation and customization. It's easy to homebrew new classes or inclinations if you want even more options. If you don't like the loot system, then use your own. You can also convert monsters or adventures from nearly any system on the fly. I like this system so much that it has replaced every other system I've used or read. This is all I want or need. I'm sick of rules getting in the way of the game I want to play. I don't have the time or energy to waste.

There was a negative review on this product complaining about how this is a storytelling game. This is a storytelling game. It's silly to rate it lower because it does what it says it will do. "High Stakes is a simple, fast set of rules to create awesome stories with your friends." I really like the dice system for this game. It turns simple encounters into surprising scenes. It keeps players involved with really simple rules. I've played Dungeons & Dragons since AD&D. Sometimes you just want to sit down with a friend and make up a story instead. This game is perfect for that. However, it is not D&D. So, don't expect it to be.

This game is fantastic! It puts the fun back into tabletop miniature gaming without eating a hole in your pocket. You don't have to buy miniatures. You can use any fantasy miniatures you already have from boardgames or playing Dungeons & Dragons. The rules are easy to learn and even easier to teach without being too simple. There is a lot to remember, but you can look up rules at the table during your first games. This would be a great game to teach to your kids. I could see this being a great way to get friends interested in the hobby too. I played a game tonight with my wife. That said, there's enough game here to keep the hardcore gamer interested too. I was actually surprised by how robust the rules were. The designer Andrea was kind enough to answer my question about his game quickly. So great customer service. It's too early to tell, but this might end up being my favorite game. I haven't been this happy with a product in years. The inksaving PDF is great too. So many products here are impossible to print because their authors refuse to make a print-friendly file available. I really hope Andrea continues to put out great content for this game. It's really something special.

The best version of the greatest game ever made. The artwork is great. The layout is clear and easy to reference. The only rules left out are the ones you don't need. I wish I had this book when I was a kid.
