This is a great book for getting your players to create characters tied to the setting. Your players don't need to be experts on Eberron, they can just use this book and it will help them make a character that is tied to Sharn (or Droaam, or Thrane, or Darguun, etc. - every region/nation of Khorvaire is represented).

The backgrounds come with a feature or two that add up to be the equivalent of a feat (more impactful than a 2014 background feature, roughly equal to a 2024 background feature). If your players don't mind the added line or two of crunch on their character sheet, this is a great way to get them invested in a corner of the setting and start thinking about their character as a citizen of that place.

I ran an Eberron campaign for two years with PCs that all used backgrounds from Origins of Eberron, and I would recommend it for anyone doing something similar!

There are a few small errors and some balance questions, which I posted about in the discussion area, but the overall quality is still great. I'll be using this going forward in place of backgrounds. Great work.

Very interesting product, serves as a great alternative background feat houserule for eberron specifically and is definately something I can see myself cracking open for getting some players feet wet when it comes to Eberron. It is a bit weird to get a feel for the power level of everything, especially when specific ability score improvements are on the table and I do wish the citizen backgrounds had a bit more meat to them, but the main origins above the citizen origins more than make up for what is otherwise a generic option. Also really love the different Dwarf Clan origins, sparks my imagination about flushing out individual uncovered clan suborigins myself. I do find the CLAN NARATHUN suborigin feature a bit weird since it is a clan that favors mages but the meta choice would be to put this on a martial (Many attacks plus less things to concentrate on) but it is an is. Overall, great material
