GRIDSHOCK 20XX 4-Zine Set
Publisher: VX2
by Aaron F. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 05/12/2022 12:14:41

Full disclosure: I was a credited playtester & know the author, but I still bought my copies of this (via the initial Kickstarter)

The 4-zine set is 100+ pages of one of the best original supers settings out there. Technically stated for ICONS, the stats/rules of that system are light enough that you shouldn't have any trouble using them for the basis of your own conversion to the supers system of your choice.

The 4 zines are well organized and break the setting down into a setting overview, a roster of sample PC templates/ideas and some enemies, a gazetter of several regions, and an entire zine of glossary and concepts. Basically everything you would need. The layout and artwork are top-notch and very easy to read/reference.

The setting is a clever concept that allowed a 'kitchen sink' of concepts from the 80's-90's to come together in a very cool retro inspired post-apocalyptic cyberpunk supers mish mash. The different regions are each designed with a different 'feel' or inspiration with advice on adventures and sample antagonists for each one so you can pick and choose what type of adventures you want to run based on where you put it. But they're all good so you can jusst have the PCs bounce around from one to the other if you want.

Those Dark Places: The Gamma-Sigma 12 Report
Publisher: Farsight Games
by Aaron F. [Verified Purchaser]

At 37 pages this is the longest adventure for Those Dark Places yet! Like the other two by Farsight Games (aka the author of Those Dark Places himself Jonathan Hicks) this is a good adventure. A little more combat heavy than the others it includes some optional rules for making that go a little smoother. It has a couple good twists/surprises (no spoilers) and of course the situation is not entirely what the briefing says it is (but then they never are, right?). And if you don't want to use the adventure as written you can still use the deck plans for the sample ship (same one as in the other two adventures though) or the 3 page plans for the station itself in your own adventures.

Those Dark Places: The AMC-222 Report

Another great adventure by the author of Those Dark Places himself! Longer than the previous one, this is a non-linear investigatory/horror adventure. Please note the content warning, I can definitely see how the body horror elements might be too much for some people. The module contains a map of the asteroid mine and as a bonus also includes a deckplan for the DSRV Grahams (whic is also the same recommended PC ship from the last adventure). At the very end of the advenutre is some good backstory that could be used for future adventure hooks or even a small campaign.

An excellent first issue! Escpecially useful because it is obvious care was taken to either make the material equaly usable in either a Sweden or Poland campaign or to offer options for both locations. Whichever default setting you decide to set your game in, the material is equally usable. Looking forward to the next issue!

Those Dark Places: The Ana-Sin-Emid Report
Publisher: Farsight Games
by Aaron F. [Verified Purchaser]

An excellent adventure for a very tightly designed game. About twice as long as the adventure included in the rulebook, it also includes a full deckplan for the titular ship. Without spoiling anything this is a good 'ghost ship' investigatory adventure that avoids being too linear or "railroad-y". There's an optional rule for spacesuit damage that I flagged for use in other adventures as well.
Note the content warning, while on the mild side in my personal opinion (YMMV) this adventure is definitely leans more towards 'sci-fi horror' than 'sci-fi thriller'. Finally, Those Dark Places is rules light enough that the plot/details for this adventure could easily be adapted to those couple of other 'dark sci-fi' RPGs that are out there.

Monsters! Monsters! 2nd Edition

by A customer [Verified Purchaser]

A great update to a classic game spun off from (and by the same creator of) Tunnels & Trolls. All new art, improved layout, and clearer updated rules in line with the latest edition of T&T bring this old-school classic into the modern era in real style! A stand alone game that is also compatible with and can be used as an expansion to T&T.
