Possibly one of the best setting books available for V5 and V20. Lovingly researched, well-designed, all around an excellent product that deserves your attention.

If you're a Storyteller planning a chronicle in 19th century America - or even colonial era America - you should seriously consider this book.

It follows a familiar structure, with chapters on history and geography, a Cainite Rogues' Gallery, and a short but well-designed chronicle which allows plenty of flexibility in the story and many opportunities to explore the setting. There's also a short chapter with some useful advice on character creation in this era. One innovation is that the NPC write-ups in the main book don't include stats, which instead are listed in a separate booklet of character sheets. That's useful for players who want to read about a character without knowing their capabilities. The power level of the NPCs is well judged, challenging but not overwhelming for a PC group. I found them an interesting and diverse bunch with a lot of story potential. The writing throughout is very nice - clear and with a good flow.

Visually, the book is an utter delight. The graphic design is superb, the artwork is wonderful, and there are maps and setting illustrations gallore, along with a custom character sheet from Mr. Gone. The visual richness comes at a cost in that the main book is a very large file, but a reduced size version is included for those with low-spec computers.

There's also a V5 update for those players who love the setting but may prefer the new system, including some fine Loresheets that will probably add value even if you're using the V20 rules.

The combination of visual and narrative elements make it very easy to immerse yourself in this world. It's a rich and well-crafted setting which is a pleasure to read.

Definitely a must-see product! Made with care and with wonderful illustrations, Philly By Night brings a setting in the period of American history that I've always enjoyed. Plus, they made an update to V5, which is tremendously affectionate! Congratulations!

This book is the first in a series detailing the city of Philadelpia through different time periods and covers the time between the Colonial Period to the years before the World’s Fair in 1876. And is written to be used with the 20th Anniversary ruleset in mind. The author recommends having acces to Vampire: The Victorian Age and Vampire: The Wild West for inspiration in creating stories for the time period.

The first thing one notices is the gorgeous presentation. The folks at Chopping Block Media give us a full color experience with custom page borders, different page backgrounds for each chapter and several custom illustrations.

The book is very good with a detailed description of the history and geography of the City with plenty ploothooks and places of interest for use in a Chronicle. We really liked the sections dealing with how to portray the bigotry and prejudice inherent to the time period in a mature and respectful manner. We really liked the fact that the history of the Prince directly linked to the development of the Philadelphia and the greater Camarilla presence in the United States. The Kindred presented are very interesting and well written either as individuals or coteries and ther stats in the appendix look appropiate to their age.

The brief campaign in Chapter five forms part of events described in the greater history of the City so the results are a foregone conclusion, even then it is interesting and can be used to set the stage for a longer campaign that explores the consequences of the PCs.

We strong recommend this book to all fans of the world of darkness.

Philadelphia by Night is a historical city setting for Vampire:The Masquerade. A lot of the material can be used with any edition of the game, there are just a few stablocks written with V20 rules. The layout on this supplement is extremely well done and compliments the art well. Visually this is an amazing book.

Chapter 1 An introduction to the book, letting the reader know what to expect.

Chapter 2 gives a history of Philly. Full disclosure I've only ever been to the city once, and even then it was only to switch trains on a trip to Chicago and my knowledge of the city is limited to movies and Eastern State Penitentiary from one college course 20 years ago . If this chapter is historically accurate it is very well researched and if not its a great work of fiction. It then gets into the Kindred history of the city.

Chapter 3 introduces the reader to the Kindred who reside in Philadelphia. Like all well round NPC chapters I've ever read, there's at least one that I want to kill in game. Looking at you Roualeyn George Gordon Cumming.

Chapter 4 is a guide to the setting. It gives you everything you need so you don't have to pick up Victorian Age Vampire to get a sense of playing a vampire in the 19th-Century

Chapter 5 a chronicle to get the reader started. A great tool for a Storyteller on how to get you started playing, while giving plenty of hooks useful for continueing the campaign in the city.

Overall this is a really well done book top to bottom. And I'm saying this as a person who is not a fan of VtM games set in a historical setting. If you like VtM and historical settings, you should buy this supplement.
