As my groups' PCs started young, literally just after their adulthood rituals, I always planned on having them interact with people below the "movers and shakers" of the area. I wanted them to move upwards and remember those NPCs who helped them get there. This book has greatly helped me and inspired my little corners of Jonstown and Wilmskirk for when the PCs travel further.

I am, of course, using this with its sister title, The Dregs of Clearwine, which you should also take a look at.

This book describes a tiny corner of one small city, with a cast of proper locals rather than adventurers - weaver, perfume maker, wineseller, cook, entertainer etc. Each with tons of personality, relationships, plot hooks, and great illustrations.

The book is peppered with useful additional information, some specifically about the setting, and some inspired by archaeological knowledge. The layout is clear and easy to follow throughout. Both this and its companion book Dregs of Clearwine are a great resource if your game is set in that location: but also most of the content can fairly easily be transplanted to other locations.

There is a scenario at the back described as "Demo Adventure" based around a really imaginative premise which gives plenty of opportunity to interact with the locals of Cups as well as to sow the seeds of wider entaglements and storylines.

It's clearly a labour of love, and shows very effectively how an understanding of the game-world's lore can be woven into depicting its everyday life.

Like its companion book Dregs, Cups of Clearwine gives us a view into a slice of Clearwine life, allbeit a nicer area of the Fort!

Presented with the same care and attention to detail, Cups immerses us into a little corner of the town, with its people (who all have their own hopes, fears and desires) events and day to day life.

I find this book invauable when running games in Clearwine! You will too.

Both this and Dregs have incuded information and advice for GMs running characters here.

All of the people are beautifully illustrated and the map of the area has rooftop and footprint versions. No need to try to come up with a map on your own!

As I said regarding Dregs, you should buy this! You will not regreat it!

Oh, Jeff said of this book 'This is a great resource! Buy it NOW'. As always, Jeff is not wrong!

I am a huge fan of Kris Herbert portraits. That they come connected to a web of interesting characters is a bonus. After Dregs I could expect intertwined fates, very human likes and dislikes and interesting stories framed in a urban setting that is historically believable. I was not disappointed.

I would not expect the supplement to support traditional monsterbash, but for soap opera connected to lives of normal people the small book is very good.

CAVEAT: I play with some of the creators, nut I am not involved with Beer and Teeth production.

Cups of Clearwine is a delightful volume. Well-presented with Kristi Jones's lively portraits, and dozens of smaller graphic touches, this RuneQuest supplement illuminates Clearwine Fort's "middle class" with crystal clarity. It builds upon BWT's previous Clearwine volume, while still welcoming readers unfamiliar with that work.

My favorite part is probably the short adventure, in the appendix. Delightfully strange, it serves as a great way to introduce players to the community with a truly "Gloranthan" plot. I also love the sidebars describing work and daily life in Clearwine Fort. These details—including glassmaking, waste management, and even a troll-friendly snack recipe—bring the setting to life.

Cups of Clearwine is an inspiration for myself as gamemaster and writer. An absolute gem.

In "Cups of Clearwine," the Beer With Teeth collective details a more up-market corner of the Colymar tribal capital, fleshing out the everyday lives of the residents of Sandy Corner (or “Elisanda’s Grove,” as older and more aspirational locals still call it). Every household comes with a big box of plot-hooks, profiles inc. RQG stat-blocks for the more interesting residents, and insights into what makes these people tick and how they all get along (or not). A wonderfully-imagined community for your adventurers to visit, complete with price lists, bronze age crafting tips, and gorgeous illustrations.

Firstly, a declaration. I game with the authors, and indeed was responsible for introducing Runequest to at least two of them, but I was not involved in the production of this work (not even by allowing them to pinch NPCs from my game).

This is a gazeteer to a lower middle class area of the City of Clearwine (although it could easily be adapted to any other city in a similar setting). It contains listings for 24 (25 including a visitor from the lower class area) human NPCs, one trollkin, and one wolf, and a setting with 12 buildings, including a popular wine bar.

There is 1 detailed urban adventure with political overtones to challenge the non-combat heroes, and many plot hooks for further adventures. Also useful is a listing of goods available and prices which might be paid.

The main value, to my mind, is the sense of feeling for the setting, helping your immersion in the setting, even if you never use it. And I think you will!
