I wonder if I enjoyed this so much because I ran it after DDAL08-04 and it was such a nice experience compared to the previous adventure.
I've run DDAL08-01 through DDAL08-03 in conjunction with my Waterdeep Dragonheist campaign for context. I'm now running DDAL08-04 through DDAL08-06.
What I liked: I took the vague idea of the Folded Time Trilogy (magic item interacting with the weave) in order to seed the location of one of the keys to the vault in my adventure. The key being the magic ring that sends the party back in time. BUT I've made a lot of changes to the trilogy in order to make it more cohesive so that's about all other than the scenarios. I also liked that the party gets to meet Halaster and Artor in the past, the party seemed psyched that they got to meet younger hotter Artor. This adventure is probably the one I changed the least. I almost ran it entirely as written, just leveling up the encounter CRs to pose more of a challenge to a level 7 party. The different pieces of this adventure are great. The introduction establishing the Javelin of lightning, the puzzles in the City of the Dead, the moral choice and social interaction in Nimoar's Hold, the fight on Mount Waterdeep are all great I even liked the bones of the sidequest stuff.
What I didn't like: The sidequest to the Abbey of Chauntea is a bit on the weak side of things. Not enough is given about the sisters to figure out what exactly the goal is. "Convince them to leave" is very vague, I made some stuff up but it would have been nice if I didn't need to. I know I was running a level 7 party so things were adjusted for it, but even if it was a level 4 party as the APL suggests I think this would have been rather easy without some additional combat encounters.
Overall a very solid romp through Waterdeeps past!
