Played a campaign with this setting, been playing deadlands since The Flood with deluxe. Overall good quality artwork throughout the book, and game mechanics are solid, with alot of material you can poach for other settings as well.

The Good: The layout and art are pretty good and consistent throughout. It's very legible and easy to navigate. The game mechanics updates bring the game in line with SWADE, so if you are running swade the book is worth the purchase for that. Also this is probably one of the best versions of the enlightened kung fu mechanics. Lift that for a Wuxia game and youre off to a good start. Also the new focus on a single campaign county as opposed to constantly travelling is a good shift

The Bad: Personally, I didn't like the SWADE changes to arcane backgrounds. Hucksters lost alot of emphasis on dealin' with the devil, a mechanic that used to allow them to cast spells at a gamble of a poker hand instead of paying power points which recovered much slower for them. Now it's something to cast a spell they havn't taken a power for, making it a more situational gamble. Consequences for backlash have been diminished in all arcane backgrounds and now only function on a critical failure. Blessed and weird science are just other casters now, losing their unique mechanics. The mad scientist probably powers are now entirely trappings and function no different than a huckster mechanically.

The Ugly: As mentioned above the mad scientist is probably the worst thing in the book, but what maes this part especially ugly is the removal of the CSA as a faction. Previously the civil war never actually ended and the country was locked in a stalemate due to the arrival of ghostrock, magic and super weapons. It really sold the alternate history aspect and allowed us a fresh setting on a familiar map. It got alot more bland after that, it feels alot less "alternate history" and more "heres the wild west with magic"

Overall, if you prefer swade mechanics, its worth getting. You may want to consider revamping the mad scientist and adding back in the csa or using the lore from the previous editions.

The setting and everything is great as is the layout and the organization of the material. If you have ever played a Savage Worlds based game, then picking this up will be very easy.

My one complaint is that Deadlands: Weird West doesn't include everything you need to play the setting in its core books. Instead, you have to purchase the Savage Worlds Adventure Edition book as well. While I can understand that people who are already aware of Savage Worlds will already know this and be prepared for it, new players will not. The material in the Savage World Adventure Edition book that would need to be duplicated in the Deadlands: Weird West book is pretty minimal when all things are considered. For me, I would have preferred to have a setting core book that has all the information I need for the setting rather than having to have a second book which contains information that will definitely not work with Deadlands: Weird West.

I have been a Savage Worlds fan for over a decade. I have taught all my kids and family the system, and it is my go to system for running and playing RPGs. I missed the original boat for deadlands however. So the fact that this has been updated to SWADE, as well as offering a reboot of the world, allowing new players easy access to the world and the lore is nothing short of amazing for people like me! In addition there are hints of the past history sprinkled in, allowing veteran players to continue their tails into the Weird West.

I love the refactored rules as they are tied to Swade, and really enjoy running this system!

The lastest iteration of the original Spaghetti Western - with Meat! It brings all of the rules in line with the current Savage Worlds Adventure edition and updates the background to take into account the "Morgana Effect", the time rippling effect from their new Dark Ages Setting. The production values are wonderful as always, with geat new art that captures the feel of the Weird West. The new timeline has caused some discussion, as Pinnacle has decided to get rid of the CSA. There is a very good reasoning for it on their website, and nobody is keeping you from using the old Reloaded background if you prefer the ongoing War for your games. But I appreciate Pinnacle to take a critical look on their presentation of problematic issues like a valid CSA and their naming and treatement of Native Americans. The only thing I miss is the different colours of Fate Chips, but it was inevitable to get in line with SWADE. It's probably more nostalgia than anything. Long Story short, you can't go wrong with THE iconic setting of Savage Worlds.

Pinnacle always produces great content and Deadlands the Wild West book for Savage Worlds Adventure Edition (SWADE) doesnt disappoint.

The graphic design and art is beautiful with well designed layout.

My only criticism of the book is that it hints at what the Morgana Effect is but doesnt give the reader much concrete information. This likely will be explained further in future splatbooks, adventures etc.

I have been a fan of Deadlands for a long time. This edition brings the iconic setting to SWADE, making a few changes in mechanics and highlighting the iconic moments that make Deadlands a wonderful setting to set adventures in. It seems this book strikes the perfect balance. It offers new players and GMs a chance to hop in without the need to know the huge amount of lore that came before while remaining interesting and fresh for long time fans.
