First and foremost, the thing I was not expecting and the thing I appreciate the most: a well-done restructure to the maddness features from the base game. Truly, as a mental health professional, it was refreshing to find and such a relief to take it off my list of "things I need to make." I think the way this supplement reconstructs the "temporary maddness" to condition-based reactions is just a beautiful way to engage mechanics with roleplay.
I also greatly appreciate the efforts to redefine the other maddness tables and take a less "ooh they're stark raving MAD! Scandalous!" approach, and that the author provides a serious attempts at capturing mental health without further stigmatizing it. Personally not a fan of 'sanitoriums' just from the namesake and the history, but I get why they would be appropriate for the context of high fantasy middle ages. Downtime activity, also A+, I love it.
So, amazing, I would have bought this just for those mechanics alone! That said, the spells are equally impressive. I'm both stoked as a player with a GOO warlock to try some of these out, and as a DM who is eager to slip a spooky spellbook or two into the game.
Blahblahblah, great stuff. My only criticism is that the font used can be a little difficult to read, but truly that is nitpicking at its finest. It's still 5/5.
