Paul Bimler does it again with this latest installment in his solo D&D series. His series has managed to capture all of the fantastic elements from the CYOA gamebooks from the 1980s, [Sorcery! (Steve Jackson Games) was one of my absolute favorites] while still providing an enjoyable experience that stays true to the D&D 5e GAME.
Drums at Daggerford 'feels' like a much larger adventure than the previous entries in the series...as it should. Since you are now a 5th level character, you can handle a lot more than a 1st level whelp. The combats are challenging, and a few are even deadly...but the story gives fair warning before jumping off of that cliff. The story is compelling, and grows as you make your way through the adventure...and it doesn't railroad you into a linear track. You are free to move throughout as your own whim drives you, but the longer you take, the more likely you are to have more combat encounters.
Paul adds sidekicks to this adventure as well, and you have the opportunity to find one (or two) depending on how your choices lead you.
All in all, this adventure was completely enjoyable, and I highly recommend this (and the entire series).
Strap on your sword and prepare your spells as you dare to challenge the Drums at Daggerford!!
