Monsters Lairs vol. 1 - Goblins' Caves
Publisher: The Forge Studios
by John T. [Verified Purchaser]

--== What I Liked ==-- The hooks and cave content descriptions are the best part of the product. They are pretty imaginative and can be adapted to fit most campaign worlds very easy. For my post apocalyptic fantasy game it fits almost perfectly.

The maps are very artistic and have a sort of rustic flair. Speaking of the maps...

--== What I Do NOT Like ==-- By far the biggest issue with the product are the maps. There are really two big issues.

The map complex map is presented at the end of the module. It is split on 4 pages in an uneven fashion, there is no scale, it is not clear, and rooms are not marked at all. It is literally a process of examining the room maps and text to try and figure out where they belong on the main complex map. Since the map is not clear it is not easy. In fact this map is so unclear that I am contemplating having to remake it for my game.

The room sized maps look neat but there is no scale or delineation of the various objects at all. "How big is this cave?" "Where is the slit that has the basilisk?"

My only other complaints are not as serious. I would have like to see more detail on the chief and shaman. More information on their preferred method of attack and their personalities would have be good. I also wanted to see a bit more content. Maybe a few more unique rooms??? There are not that many unique areas to the caves.

--== Summary ==-- Fine if you need some added content for your game. The price point of $8 is right on the money...it is not worth much more.

I am a long time Hero System fan. Saying that I love to try new superhero genre RPGs from various companies. It is always nice to see what other folks are doing.

I was very surprised by Truth & Justice. I played a complete session with my players and found the system to be rules light, fluid, and quick. The rules really captured the feel of comics.

I posted a much longer review on the Atomic Sock Monkey message board. See that post for tons of details.

LIKED: + Quick

I was very disapppointed with this copy of Seeds. In my opinion the majority of the plot seeds are difficult to integrate into an existing campaign. Many of them rely on other super teams, deaths of superheroes, etc. I only found a couple of seed that I liked.

LIKED: There are a couple of seeds that I could use.

DISLIKED: Many of the seeds are not easy to integrate into existing campaigns.

QUALITY: Disappointing

VALUE: Disappointed
Modern Floorplans Volume 1: Office Spaces
Publisher: Fabled Environments

I think this product is well put together and VERY well supported. I want to relay a story about 12 To Midnight and this product...

I purchased this product to enhance my Star Hero campaign. As Star Hero uses hexes it was important to me that there was a version of the map without squares. (I actually have plastic sheets with etched hexes that sits on top of printed maps.) I put a message on the companies message board asking this question. I got an answer quickly that the product did include a version without squares. I then bought the product. When I examined it I discovered that the only version without squares was not tiled. Thus it could ONLY be printed at 24" x 36" in size. I again posted on the board. In a few days they produced a tiled version without squares for me. AWESOME! :D

This company and its products are first rate. Give this product and company a chance to enrich your modern or sci-fi game! ;)

This is a great product for just about any sci-fi campaign. I run my own custom setting and I find this book a constant source of new ideas.

LIKED: I like the fact that each idea is presented in a page. This is a great length. It is not too long if the idea won't work for you but detailed enough that it can be adapted. I also like the way twists are given for each idea.

DISLIKED: A couple of the ideas are very cliche...but only a couple are this way.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
