I ran this as a epilogue to Descent Into Avernus. I highly recommend running this as a 4-hour adventure, since it adds a lot of exploration as well as a fun chase scene. The adventure itself is very fun, with lots of combat, puzzles, and exploration. My only critique is the layout of the module itself. There's more scenes than you can possibly run in a 4-hour slot, and they aren't presented in the order in which you are supposed to run them. As a result, it defintely requires more prep on the DMs side to determine which parts of the adventure you want to run and what order to run them in.

A real step up over the preceding two adventures.

The Good:

  • Fantastic atmosphere. Elturel after dark really drew the players in, as did the fight in Martyr's Alley and the final room.
  • Lots of content and very flexible. Can be run quick as you like, or you can expand it into a meaty 2-3 game session.
  • Replayability with options for different encounters in the first half of the adventures.
  • Martyr's alley again. Really got the player's adrenaline flowing.
  • Well constructed maps

The Bad:

  • Some minor edit issues, but nothing too serious.
  • The puzzle was too straightforward
  • The story hook between how Dara needs the Wards and how yuriall suddenly needs help is rather too convenient plot wise

Really enjoyed this one, and so did the players.

Player feedback drops this to a four. Most of the encounters are weak for an average group if feats or some builds are use. Increase count of monsters, HP, or add a bonus +2 to hit for some monsters. The coin athletics check is low. My players suggest you move the coin to another part of the alley. Drop the Still in Avernus paragraph. Just let the players know this is after the return. In the Flying Characters add a sentence at the end. "Or give the monsters a fly speed matching their movement." I had everyone near the wall take radiant damage and increased the range every round the wall was active. My players were not going for the scripted damage each round from the rats, I threw as swarms and let them kill them. I also increase the int of feral vampires. My players loved the bonus actions depending on race of the vampires. Excellent work on Appendix 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. Best maps I seen recently.

This is my favorite adventure in the series! Great elements of design and a fitting end to this T3 Series. Good swath of adventure hooks. I always love learning new vocabulary, so when I came across the word "pillock", I used contextual clues to decipher its meaning and was in the general area. LOL! I appreciate the opportunity for learning. I like that the module makes an effort to "include" flying players in Part One. Martyr's Alley even made me cringe (and I'm running the adventure, LOL!)! Lasty, I appreciate the nods to Illmater in the descriptive presented ... I even felt immersion in the description of The Wards of Suffering as well as the freindly reminder by the designer to DMs to "... impose a challenge.." to players. The designer also provides DM tips that address potential party splitting.

Another great adventure that is a great additon to any DMs T3 Library. Congrats!
