'Extinction' only recently came to my attention I'm currently giving it a good read now, and I'm really impressed.

I love the simple, straightforward chasis of Black Hack, and once again the author 'Kobayshi' makes great use of it for a foundation to rift off, just like he has done with his other games like Fleaux and Black Sword Hack.

The essence of Cold Hard Sci Fi Horror is perfectly captured clearly, and succinctly in just 75 pages, encompassing core mechanics, character archetypes, genre lore and setting detail, as well as a sample scenario and the tools to create your own, including creating Alien threats and the like.

Kobayshi's BH games are almost becoming instant buys for me.

(The only reason these games don't get the fifth star is I reserve that to encompas professional artwork and whatnot in the book, and for a form-fillable character sheet. For an indie publisher however, these books are top shelf)

Highly recommend these titles, this one included!

Kobayashi did it again. a quasi ZIP file with all you need, if you love Alien.esque horror, and cold, metal corridors in space. A true gem, highly recommended!

Une belle réussite de Kobayashi qui utilise efficacement le Black Hack. Les ajouts plongent dans l'ambiance Sci-Fi horrifique et les outils sont un vrai plus pour mener et préparer. Ben joué !

I completly agree with everything Steven W. wrote in his review. I love how compact the information is presented in "Extinction". Small tables that open your imagination while refering to known tropes, so that you can create your universe of Extinction. Your are not bound by really long universe description, but have all the tools to play your "first encouter of the deadly kind"-campaign. I wanted to create a Black-Hack based Sci-Fi RPG. After I finished reading "Extinction", I buried the project, because I don't think i could do better than this masterpiece (so I'd use it: tinker less, play more !). Anyway, if you need an easy ruleset and compactly described universe for your friday night game (and it's already monday), Extinction is THE GAME TO GET. Remember: "In space, no one hears you sreaming at your D20"

Extinction is almost 80 pages with minimal art and maximal playability. Based primarily on the D&D BlackHack rules engine, Extinction is designed to model a grungy, humans only "Hard" (if you don't look too close) sci fi unvirse like Aliens, Outland and Blade Runner.

The game does not have rules for ship-to-ship combat, or really any sort of vehicle combat, but those things don't happen in those films, and besides there are plenty of other OSR books out there to crib from. Similarly, there is not a huge bestiary because humanity is the biggest monster and OSR monster books are easy to find.

At this page count, at this price, this is a near perfect little game.
