Over the past several years I have picked up and tried quite a few roleplaying games. Each of them had their pluses and minuses, but most were extremely rules-heavy and none of them ever really hooked me. The Cypher System is the only system that was able to capture and hold my attention. This is a system that is driven more by the stories that the players tell and less by how many big bad things they kill. It is a system that is incredibly simple to learn (quite often with players up and running within minutes), but has real depth to it for those that want to dig deeper. I have never known a system like the Cypher System that makes it possible to go from adventure concept to players rolling dice as quickly as this one. With as little as 10 minutes prep I have been able to run a 4 hour session. And as much as I love running games in the Cypher System, I love being a player in it even more. You really can't go wrong with this book. It has everything in it to run a game in virtualy any setting you like.

My Love for the Cypher System started with Numenera, and this book takes the whole system and makes it available for any Genre providing you with materials and tools for years of play. The book excellently transforms the rules of Numenera into my most beloved generic system, while simultaneously refining and extending what was already there. You get an easy to understand System with a solid Core Mechanic which ist Light on the GMs side to prep too, a ton of Options for unique characters, advice and examples for porting your favorite settings and a weird and wonderful collection of different creatures to directly put in your game, everything is rounded out by advice on how to use and breathtakingly gorgeous Artworks. 11/10 you should definetely give this system a try.

I've been a huge fan of Monte Cook Games ever since I was introduced to the Cypher System several years ago by a friend of mine. The Cypher System is one of the best, story-focused systems I have ever played. The game itself is relatively simple, but it is wrapped in an incredibly detailed cover. With the option to run a Cypher game in any genre with plenty of examples of how to change the character concepts and items from setting to setting. I've been able to tell some really great stories in the system and I hope anyone looking for a new ttrpg will give it chance. I've run a sci-fi game, a horror game, and several others. Just give it a chance, I think you'll enjoy it! Monte Cook Games makes some quality games.

Cypher is my favorite system to GM. I've been in love with it since I discovered Numenéra several years ago and even if I've GMed several different systems since I keep coming back to Cypher. The narrative ease of not having to worry about dice rolls and how easy it is to stat any encounter makes rolling with what my players throw at me super easy. I also love the experience and instrusion mechanics that give players much more agency over the narrative than other systems.

This is one of my favorite RPG systems out there, infinitely adaptable and easy to use and teach. The system is open to adaption, but right out of the book can be applied to so many settings. With a simple system where you have to decide when it's appropriate to spend resources, where advancing the plot earns you experience for your character, and you're encouraged to work as a team, I've played this game to death.

Whenever a friend is thinking about doing a homebrew setting for almost any game, I encourage them to check out this book and this system. You will be less hamstrung by more rigid systems and can put the emphasis where it should be: the players and the story.

Cypher System is my go-to system for many genres. It allows for flexibility and ease of customization and it seriously does everything I need a TTRPG system to do. I've run this since the first version, and this updated version really streamlines what was already a simple ruleset. I am not much of a preperatory GM, and Cypher allows me to run with at little or as much prep as I want. New players can pick up the rules quickly. It's simple to create homebrew settings and content, or you can choose from the many, many created settings from both official MCG products or from awesome products created through the Cypher System Open License.

Excellent book: clear, simple. Easy to build the character. Need complex one?- Cypher System allow You to describe anything You want. Any genre, any setting. Also allow concentrate yourself on the game itself. Instead of permanent dice throwing.

One thing I don't really like: DM never uses dices according to CS. But I've broken this rule and do use dices as DM: do it in some situation instead of one ot the players.

Maybe I "just don't get it," but from what I've read thus far, the "any character, any setting" thing is hype, save in the sense that you could say that about most any RPG. After all, you COULD use, for example, "Bunnies and Burrows," by FGU to run a dystopian super horror game, but I wouldn't want to try it, esp. when there are games that accomodate such out of the box.

To be fair, if you want something that is rather fast and flexible, that also permits a great deal of latitude in settings and characters, then you could do worse than Cypher.

Without the hype, and the feeling of being suckered by yet another game, on those terms it would be at least a four-star game.

Again, though, from what I can tell, this isn't what was advertised.

Just tell the truth? Honesty is the best policy, MCG.

I like the modernization of the new book, and most of the new layout. I can appreciate the desire to separate the powers list since some of them might be duplicated between types and flavors, however it's a bit of an annoyance to 'compile' them together when making characters. At least the book has hyperlinks for it!
