Affinity Publisher Basics - User Guide & Template

I've been looking into alternative to Adobes creative cloud. Scribus was hard to get into, but Affinity Publisher fills the gaps in Scribus UI. Vinco created a usable template and instruction guide for making your own SWAG products. It's a great product that helped me better understand how to use Affinity Publisher to product SWAG content.

Rogues Hall of Fame (Savage Worlds)
Publisher: SPQR Games

Rogues Hall of Fame is a supplement pdf for Guild of Shadows.

Collectively it contains several historical figures, many of which are perfect for a Steampunk, Pirate, Western, or Horror campaign.

One thing you should know is that you will need to purchase Guild of Shadows in order to understand the edges and hindrances, if you are unable to find this it's still possible to swap out edges from the core book.

If you want to add historical figures such as Guy Fawkes, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Fagin (pickpocket leader from Oliver Twist) or the either collection of Robin Hood and Merry men then you should pick up this book.

I enjoyed the concept and plan to add these characters to my games.

Deadlands Noir GM Screen Inserts
Publisher: Pinnacle Entertainment

I currently run a Deadlands: Noir game on roll20

These inserts are a god-sent for that game as they provide a quick reference to material I am other wise unsure of (such as patter and interrogation rules).

While they are over priced (the rules are in the book) I found them useful in keeping pace with my players.

Thrilling Tales 2e: The Steel Legion

A play on the classic “Giant Robot” pulp era story, this is a fairly fun play through inline with weird fiction of the time.

The story is great for your mystery men or ace pilot since the robots can easily be scaled for different leveled characters (such as in “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow”)

These unstoppable robots are balanced by humans henchmen to an evil scientist. (I mean you have to be able to fight the enemy right?)

There are a limited number of items added, but depending on your game they can be confiscated and used in future play through.

Since I prefer to play a non-lethal mystery man (the Green Hornet) I can see the value of the technology found and how the items can be disputed over in future play through of a campaign.

Modern Dispatch (#66): Superheroic Adventure Generator

A fairly cost effective muse. I have used this as a method to devise simple scenarios for my players. It's not very intense and it will definitely require imagination on the part of the GM, but it does help create the framework for a story.

Scenarios I have created involved:

  1. Saving an alien defector from space police while on the Moon (Thus limiting the PC's use of their powers).
  2. Infiltrating another team who is searching for a Vampire in a crowded market; with the secret goal of helping the vampire escape.
  3. Stopping a mad Occultist who runs people off the road using an 18-Wheeler which he has imbued with a fear spell.
  4. Rescuing one of the PC's arch-nemesis from a haunted house after the rival botched a spell to summon a demon; things are complicated when the rival sees a way to escape by offering the heroes up in his place

There are several options, but they will require 2 d8 dice and the application of imagination.

Shanghai Vampocalypse (Savage Worlds)
Publisher: Savage Mojo
by Dustin S. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 09/19/2014 16:21:44

Let me start off by saying Savage mojo had a very good idea, unfortunately if came up short in my opinion for a few simple reasons.

Lets start off with what I like about the product.

  1. The history and setting are intense and dire; you feel and know the world is in a desperate place and there is no way to escape from it.
  2. The Horror aspect of the campaign was done right, with slow build up and gradually increasing danger you and the PC's are sucked into the story.
  3. The martial arts sections is a good resource (but requires some tweaking) for those players who have attempted to play a martial artist and found it impossible.

Now what I don't like

  1. The Suzerien setting; my biggest qualm with Shanghai Vampocalypse is that you are required to use the Suzerien Continuum. If you're not familiar with this it's a system that adjust the rules of Savage worlds in order to allow your characters to play as “Demi-God's”
  2. Lack of adaptability; this is really tied back to point one, but its a key factor for me. The Suzerien setting changes aspects of game play such as power points, due to this it's more difficult to import stock characters from supplements.
  3. The Lack of maps; while it is true most people can make their own several of these locations are very specific, and because of that I feel that Savage Mojo should have included at least one or two key areas.

Currently I'm working to adjust the campaign to allow regular game play. I'm doing this by tweaking some of the characters in the campaign to fit into Interface Zero 2.0. So while I feel that it has a great deal of merit I'm not sure that it was worth the full price I paid. My advice would be to keep it in your wish list and wait for a price reduction (like the Savage September Sale) strip out the Suzerien rules and apply the campaign to another cyber-punk setting like Interface Zero 2.0 by Gun Metal Games or Daring tales of the Sprawl by Triple Ace Games.
