This is a fun adventure I have modified a bit to drop into LMoP/DOIP and the new Shattered Obelisk. Placing it in Cragmaw Hideout was fun the first time but I have found it is a good idea to put it elsewhere as a surprise adventure when things get slow. If you are running for newer players it is great to drop in up to level 4/5 with some adjustments for CR on monsters. Having them be associated with The Black Spider is fun and I try to link an NPC they like to the Drow so they can feel invested in exploring what this one is up to. All the artwork will want to be looted by players so expect to add in a trip to Neverwinter or Waterdeep to sell those things but that really does add to the adventure. This whole package of the Lost Tales are great to run in parallel and easy to adjust to broaden the scope of the campaign.

For Shattered Obelisk the Drow is disturbed at the discovery of the new goblins in the area and tells tales of the old empire that used to exist and had run rampant in Talahunderth/Gibbets Crossing and destroying the merchants. You can connect the Necromancer to one of the families that are there as it adds a little more to the story. Bringing in Nezznar and their interest in WEC with the Shards can be fun. I highly recommend this especially for newer DM's

We enjoyed it. I changed the backstory and motives of the boss to turn him into an important character in one of my player's story. I think the only bad thing about this adventure is that the environment does not offer much in combat and in some areas it turns into dice-rolling-gaming. However, this only happened once in our session, so it is not a big deal :) You may try it, I believe this is a good adventure to deepen the BBEG of LMoP.

I really enjoy the core idea of this product and its implementation. I am planning to use it in my next LMoP campaign. It can be used as a boost to the Cragmaw Hideout adventure, if you want your players to gain more experience (levels) before taking on the Redbrands in Phandalin. However, I will probably use it instead as an alternate, more interesting location for the Agatha side quest.

The language issues have been completely cleaned up.

Contrary to another reviewer's comments, this adventure does not conflict with the official LMoP product. The entrance to the new level comes from part of the Hideout that is approx 25' higher than the front entrance, so the other exit from this new map is at about the same elevation as the Hideout's front entrance. Also, there is nothing in LMoP that states that the Black Spider has only recently arrived. He has only recently encountered the Rockseekers, but there is nothing saying he hasn't been lurking in the Phandalin area for some time (weeks, months, longer?) searching for the Lost Mine fruitlessly (until now). That leaves sufficient time for the Necromancer to have settled in where he is.

English is not a well known language to the author of this adventure, and it shows. Plenty of spelling and grammar areas throughout. Also the premise for this adventure to be interlaced into the storyline is not too well thought out. The necromancer could not have been there as long as the author mentions because the Black Spider only recently captured the Dwarven brothers in the Lost Mine of Phandelver. This necromancer artist idea is a good one though. Just need to find another angle to put him into the Goblin caves complex. Also please note that you could easily insert the necromancer's complex into any adventure for low level characters and it could still provide a great deal of fun. I also liked the detail that the author tried to go into to describe the unique artworks, but the author really should have kept it simple as English is not his first language. I mean, I would have to rewrite all of the descriptions for the entire adventure because they are so poorly written and they don't flow naturally as they are. Another thing that bothered me is that the cave entrance out of the necromancer's cave complex would not work in a 3D space in combination with the location of the goblin cave complex; it would be far too low when compared to the goblin's cave entrance map. It would make a lot more sense if there was a winding upward passageway back up to a covered entrance hidden by some briar bushes or something. Furthermore the idea of the adventuring party having to crawl down some unknown underground stream passageway to find a bigger boss on another enemy's word seems foolish. I mean, if they left Klarg alive, he could easily release the water from the 2nd dam on them, and they could possibly be drowned or shot out of the stream's exit to be crushed on the ground beneath the waterfall. I think it would make far more sense if the entrance to the necromancer's cave was above the stream bed level at area 4 in the Cragmaw Hideout. Have an offshoot of the original stream (or another stream entirely) connect with the cave on the way down to the necromancer's complex. Anyway, I rated this 3 stars because there is a base of a wonderful idea in here.

Hey Bradley, thanks for your review. It is true that I’m desperately searching for somebody to review my poor English. Would you be interested? Giulio
