This scenario is a whole lot of fun, but they are not kidding with the content warning. If you or your players are sqemish you should probably play something else. That said, it is very well written and have rather amazing pre-gens. It took us 5 hours to play through it but the Keeper can decide to run it longer and I could easily have run it twice that time but I wanted a fast paced ghost hunting experience for my players. A pro tip is that if you order then beautiful hardback, also get the .PDF with it because like most CoC modules it have a whole lot of handouts and being able to just print those out or put them out on Roll20 as I did saves a whole lot of work and problems for you, the price is almost the same as for just the hardback too. This is a perfect one shot module to bring to an convention or to run your players through when you want them to play something different. You could insert it into an existing campaign but you will loose a lot of the most fun parts that way. Using the super chat to manipulate your players is really a dreamtool for any keeper. :) 5 Stars as a one shot or 2 session seperate game, 3 stars to run inserted in an ongoing campaign.

The good things: The system is pretty simple but works well and it have some pretty advanced features in the basic rules like city managment. The layout is good and it is pretty easy to find your way through the rulebook. It gives a rather good mechanics to run campaigns based on LitRPG books, or for that matter SAO and Log Horizon style Manga/anime. Gameplay have good flow (unlike games like Werewolf where combat takes forever) and the rules makes sense.

The bad things: You do need to buy "The next level" book. There is no skill list, just a few examples except for the crafting skills. Even with the Next level book are there far too few advanced classes. The book is prettty small so there are few examples and it is pretty thin on information about the world.

In coclusion: This is a good game, game wise it works as well as most of the AAA RPGs like D&D, Pathfinder, Shadowrun and similar games but it feels like the devs should expand the rulebook with at least a recommended skill list, a more advanced system for gear and more classes. If you are willing to create your own skills and either have a limited number of classes or make some up for yourself you will have a good time with this game. If you want the game to provide you with all these things this might not be the game for you.

The powerlevel is slightly less then you expect in this type of game, characters certainly becomes more powerful as they level but not insanely so like in D&D and Pathfinder, it is closer to Shadowrun in that sense.

It is certainly worth the price even if you have to count to buy the Next level and 100 runestone books to get out as much as possible of the game. I bought tthe hardcover version with the best colors and it certtainly looks good and the binding is excellent, I recommend investing in a hardcover version unless you for .PDF.

I recommend it, it is different from any other game I played and I played a lot. I have a feeling D&D 4th edition tried to do something a bit similar but it failed with it, this is far more fun. If it wants to compete in the big league it will however require an expanded rulebook.

Score 4/5. Well worth the money and time. If it fixes the bad things I mentioned I would increase the score to 5/5.
