Tiny Supers
Publisher: Gallant Knight Games
by Jason H. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 04/29/2019 21:42:12

I had the good fortune to help Play Test some aspects of this game. It follows the TinyD6 Rules Set so if you are Familiar with any of the other TinyD6 Games like Tiny Dungeon or Tiny Wasteland you are already well on your way! 3d6 is all you need to be on your way to your own Super! Everything about Tiny Supers is in place to let you play in a Comic-Style world. If you want to try heroic things, or use increcidble powers in a System that gets out of the way and lets you just Play then welcome to The GallantVerse! All of the 'Classic' Super Hero tropes are available to you here, so if you want to craft a Tiny Supers version of your favourite Comic Character it is easily done as well!

Gone are the lengthy Character Creation Sessions, you pick an Archetype, Pick 3 Powers, an Origin and your already halfway to playing! Tiny Supers rewards your creativity and encourages it by following a more narrative driven approach to gameplay. There is minimal Book Keeping, only a very few Charts to be seen, in fact once you get past page 44 or so the entire book is devoted to either the GallantVerse Setting or the Micro Settings provided by some truly exceptional Authors.

My Group of Supers was up and running in under 90 minutes. This is a great game for anyone, even non-Gamers can easily jump right in. There are many Board Games that have more Rules and take longer to Set Up than this game takes to get you chasing down Super Villains, I'd even recommend it to people who do a Regular Board Game Night. It makes a great pallate cleanser as well if you have been entrenched in a Rules Heavy/Crunchy System for some time then this game is the perfect remedy. Get Super!

Tiny Dungeon: Second Edition

(I am not sure if the Original of this Posted properly so I am sending it again, I will delete the Duplicate if possible)

Many years ago I decided I was done with Dungeons and Dragons not because I fell out of love with the Game. More because I fell out of love with the bloated Rules Set/Monetization of the Business it had been turned in to rather than the Hobby I loved. Zip ahead a few years and I started to learn about the 'revival' of Minimalist Roleplaying and I was thrilled to learn that many others felt the same way I did. I wanted to return to the Game where I had only a few books and a vivid imagination. Tiny Dungeons 2e is that Game and more for me. A single Book, not even the 'usual' RPG Supplement size, easily tossed in to any bag and requiring nothing more than a handful of d6. Gone are the pages of Tables and endless lists of weapons whose only variation is a single point of a Stat.

"Rules Light" is an understatement, and opens up the Game as a hybrid between Board Games and Traditional RPGs that you could easily have up and running across a table of friends in as much time as it would take you to set up a Monopoly Board. Tiny Dungeon 2e gives you back the vastness of your own imagination and won't have you flipping through page after page of obscure 'features' to see what each one does.

As a quick example: I often entertain a couple of friends every other week and we usually throw down with Cards Against Humanity as they are not RPG Folk, just for the giggles I whipped up a few maps and tossed some D6 their way and told them they were going to play a cooperative game where the Goal was to escape alive. They took it like a fish to water and before you know it the evening flew by, I had them running about like crazy people. I let them determine their own Characters by their actions and slipped the mechanics of their choices in as Special Abilities. By the time either of them thought to ask what exactly they were playing the night was almost over and I showed them the book. It took us maybe 25 minutes to set up.

Tiny Dungeon 2e runs $22.33 Canadian right now. My Wife and our friends played for about 4 hours. That's $5ish per person for an evening of Original, genuine fun. As far as price point goes this game is beyond worth it.

Drow of Porphyra - Nalbrezu, Devils in Disguise
Publisher: Purple Duck Games
by Jason H. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 08/01/2016 13:26:57

Presented in this Supplement for the Drow of Porphyra is everything you might need to create a Character geared towards a life in the underworld of any game. I mean underworld as in the Criminal sense of course. Nalbrezu are especially tailored towards every aspect of criminal lifestyle as it stands in most Campaigns. They represent a variation to Dark Elves that allows them to easily interact with other Races without many of the usual social hang ups that accompany their stereotypes.

Also within this Product are some really ingenious twists to help you create a Character with specialties in Interrogation, Torture and subsequently the ability to resist both while also presenting you with a compelling amount of background to help you make a truly unqiue Dark Elf.

Of particular interest will be the deceptively simple Rules presented for you to make use of in the areas of Information Gathering and Torture. What might otherwise be an unseemly Roleplay Session filled with on the fly judgements is efficiently and easily handled with the Rules laid out inside.

Of course you also get ALL of this information in a truly attractive package. Therre is enough Background provided to allow you to bring immense depth to any Nalbrezu Character without it taking you hours to read through. Between the formatting and the Artwork you really are getting a quality product from Purple Duck Games as seems to be the case with all of the Drow of Porphyra supplements to Date.

Below is just a quick peak in to what the Supplement contains in my own words:

Making a Slave of a Drow is something akin to holding a live hand grenade.

Probably the most refreshing thing about the Nalbrezu is the fact that they are fully aware of their place in the grand scheme of things. They realize there are things above them and things below and rather than hold up a misplaced air of superiority they acknowledge these facts and use every skill they have at their disposal to play the system for all it is worth. One might even call them some of the most practical elves ever.

Where some Drow might take the All for One and All for Me! Attitude the Nalbrezu have taken another path and that is solidarity. "Among Drow?!" you might ask but yes, Solidarity. Where most Drow would be scheming for a way to advance themselves to a higher perceived rank or privilege the Nalbrezu act for the Nalbrezu. That is not a broad statement meant to create an army of clone characters. There is a wide swath of room for a Nalbrezu character to scheme, plot and intrigue their way through life but at the core of their belief is the idea that you do everything for the advancement of the Nalbrezu or risk the Sanctions for your crimes.

All aspects of Nalbrezu life are governed by a series of increasingly more complex and deadly Decrees and Sanctions. Violate a Decree and the Sanction is clear. Ambiguity is something the Nalbrezu do not engage in when it comes to their Code and unlike some Societies where those in power are above certain laws the Nalbrezu engage in a constant practice of evaluation right up to and including their First Five Families.

As a people the Nalbrezu engage in all manner of shady business, they are the ones at the end of your illegal supply chain, providing you with good and services which allow you to keep your hands/paws..tentacles, or what have you, clean. They are a group of specialists who offer a full range of services be it information gathering, theft, evasion or assassination.

Drow of Porphyra - The Xelusine: Sirens of Sin
Publisher: Purple Duck Games

The Fractuous Drow of Porphyra

What more can I say that Endzeitgeist hasn't already put forth in a more eloquent and thorough manner? Very little if I am being compeltely honest however I will speak to one thing that impressed me in particular.

This particular Product takes a lot, if not all, of the awkwardness or potentially uncomfortable moments that dealing with Sin can sometimes present to a Gaming Group that might not otherwise often deal with such subject matter. That by itself is worth more than most people might realize. The Xelusine take that and make it downright interesting to see where as Character driven by a desire for Sin might go in the world.

All too often when a System is put in place to represent a somewhat less well known aspect of the game (in this case Aphrodisiacs) it is just a token effort to be inclusive and thankfully that is not so with the Xelusine. This supplement makes the whole system useful instead of it ending up being a brief anecdote in a roster of skills that one must take so as to be part of a Class which is then promptly forgotten about for the rest of the Characters journey.

Most people are used to the 'Typical' Drow Trope of intrigues and machinations where everything is sneaky and daggers sprout from peoples backs like dandelions on your lawn. Xelusine (and all of the other Drow of Porphyra Supplements) takes that and gives it a pleasant twist by making the Xelusine a sort of Seperatist Party to keep things fresh among the Dark Elves. No longer do we have to use the commom place Drow Pyramid Scheme of a Single poweful entity ruling over all. Instead we get to see the Drow as a People not completely subsumed by a label as is their typical presentation. In fact the Xelusine struggle to overcome the stereotyping of their own people which by itself is a breath of fresh air!

Drow of Porphyra - Karza, Children of the Loomqueen
Publisher: Purple Duck Games
by Jason H. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 06/14/2015 22:54:48

Everyone who has even a passing familiarity with Fantasy Roleplaying has heard of the Drow. They are the stuff of Roleplaying nightmares for many a Gamer who thinks to delve in to the caverns underneath the surface of whatever realm they inhabit and have been for decades. As with all things, familiarity breeds contempt and the 'stock' Drow suffer from this more than many Races. At least they used to, until the Drow of Porphyra came along.

Within this compact Supplement from Purple Duck Games you will find both a familiar and, at the same time, fresh take on the Drow. From their compelling 'Origin' story which brought them to the caverns of the Porphyra Setting on down to their fascinating allegiances to both their Deity AND the creatures which inhabit their underground realm. In particular this Supplement does a wonderful job of firing the imagination without over burdening a GM with needless minutiae allowing for a great deal of creative thinking from the Players and the GM.

Points of specific note are the Poison Crafting System and the Alternate Racial Characteristics which give these Drow a whole new level of flair. If you've ever wanted a more subtle and involved means of Crafting Poisons for your game then these Rules should appeal to you in particular. Racial changes can be both subtle and obvious as the Player wishes but serve a dual purpose in helping to make the usual Drow House affiliation a bit more unique and engaging for all.

In short, if you want to breathe some new life in to your Drow then you should definitely consider Drow of Porphyra for addition to your Gaming Library.

The Temple of Modren Free Preview

Do you miss the nostalgia days of Gaming? Then you need to get in to the World of Aetaltis where The Temple of Modren resides. Simple and open ended gameplay are the watchwords of this Advetnure from both a Players and a DMs standpoint. There is no tedious flipping back and forth because the entry for something is not on a convenient page. Making the DMs life so much easier goes a long way to giving the Players a great time as it cuts down a lot on the "Wait..I need to find this page.." delays.

The Temple of Modren gives you a near perfect blend of traditional Fantasy Gaming mixed with just a few fascinating hints as to what the further world of Aetaltis might have to offer. It doesn't needlessly overburden a DM with mountains of extraneous details that simply won't come up on an Introductory Adventure. It does however fire the imaginations of everyone involved!
