This could not be a better mod. I loved it. The players loved it. Great combo of roleplay and combat. I received some of the nicest complements after running it.

This is a fun straight-forward module with a cute (perhaps predictable) plot twist (unless the players are bloodthirsty and attack the NPC too quickly and fail the objective). In particular, the second bonus objective has a fun variation on usual combat (milking the linnorn).

Only thing missing in the module is that the three hags together form a coven, and should have access to additional spells / spell slots; the module leaves this out.

(Side note: two of the maps are overly elaborate, and the printer couldn't print them out.)

(Only Minor Spoilers) I got to preview this module and on my first read of the early draft I instantly liked the story and the villains. I have looked forward to running it for my home group. I've had the chance to watch another DM run it, but I haven't yet run it myself, though at this point I have read it through several times.

Swamp of Sorrow is pretty well organized and has some great roleplaying opportunities. There's a lovely tragic story woven into this module that I think many players will enjoy unraveling. I really like the NPCs. Quintessa and Eshi'i are interesting characters with depth that might challenge your players' assumptions. In fact, it may be fun to tease their expectations, read the module to see what I mean! It is also worth saying there's a straight-forward way for this story to unfold with (hopefully) a happy ending, but there's plenty of elbow room for alternative outcomes too.

The bonus objectives do a lot more than just drag out the module time. They interconnect well with the main objective and build a history around the NPCs and the village of Bloodpurge, making it feel like a real place. I recommend DMs take note of Objective B especially. The Green Man is another great NPC in this module and if you're using this for non-AL play, would make a great NPC to return to again and again.

I think the main bad guys, a hag coven, are deliciously classic baddies. The write makes apparent their vivid personalities just from the names alone, but combined with their descriptions it is really easy for a DM to bring them to life at the table. Because this is a Tier 2 module, I think it does a good job of challenging players. But because of the hag types, if needed, a DM can have a lot of fun adjusting the hags encounter by adding different thematic monsters (AL DMs, remember you're allowed to do this!) if they need to challenge more experienced players. Also, catoblepas just don't get enough love!!

The module includes 4 well-drawn maps that are designed with grayscale printing in mind, which is nice for ink-saving if you need to print them.

REVIEW INCLUDES SPOILERS I like the story of this module, but I found the initial plot hook options AND the bonus objective introduction hooks are a bit weak/underdeveloped (so DM be ready to flesh them out/link the bonus objectives fluidly). My T2 party didn't have much trouble with any of the fights- the Catoblepas fight could use some minions to draw fire, so it can live more than a round and a half (a 2nd didn't last mich longer than the 1.5 rounds either). My party went on to thoroughly wreck the Linnorm and were pretty disappointed murder-hoboing actually had a penalty. For the Linnorm I'd suggest the Green Man instruct the party to not even hurt the Linnorm- give the negative Story award if it suffers more than 25% damage (cue some foreboding sign of his anger during the fight), then lose the Objective if he dies. This will make the encounter more interesting rather than a weak fight.

Ok then the final fight. First, the previous encounters did not do much to drain the resources of the party. Second, it would be helpful to include a sidebar that there are Hag Coven shared spells available or at least note it and refer the DM to the Monster Manual. With those, the Hags need to be within 30' of each other, which may restrict Boarbristle's ability to hide in the water and attack a boat, while the others fight from trees. The conjured animals are just a pain to track and while they're there to foretell something, if they're going to be included for simplicity just make them 3 of the same monster (reskin 2 to look different if you want), and be aware they're all going to be thoroughly inconsequential to the fight. The Sea Hag: DC 11 Saves make the Sea Hag trivial. I'd probably start an "Average 4-player L8 party" against 2 Annis Hags and a Night Hag. They could use some Legendary Actions like every tree on the map is awakened and MIGHT attack an adventurer, or the swamp ground is truly treacherous and could drag someone under on a failed Dex Save. As a final suggestion on this fight, consider maximizing Hag HP, but watch if the party does not have magical attacks to overcome that.

FWIW my party had a Whip of Warning to never be surprised and a Grave cleric that just Blighted the Awakened Tree and took that out of the fight to start. I tried to use guerilla tactics with the Hags ducking under water, but it just wasn't particularly a challenging fight once the Hags couldn't use Prepared Spells.

Great module for the DM that loves telling a story. Players have the option of blasting through it murder-hobo style, or they can dig into it and learn a very cool story line. I DM'd this for Gamestorm and also played in it. The combat is tough enough to make players sweat a bit, but not so overpowering that they will die in the first six seconds.

As a DM, I highly reccomend reading through it a couple of times to get the story down, so that you can really play up the roleplay options available to you. If you do that, your players will really enjoy the adventure and be talking about it for days to come.
