Let me start this by saying that the book is very clearly the result of effort and dedication, and is well presented and written.

But.

The problem that I have with this is that the tone of the book is completely and utterly antithetical to the tone of Curse of Strahd. In the middle of a dark, morose and gothic setting you find... a cute little inn run by a sweet halfling with a penchant for making food out of monster parts.

I get it, and I like the idea but I feel that Antonia Lupri and her inn are something that would work better in almost literally any setting other than Ravenloft.

The recipes are pretty good, although once again here we run into the fact that several of them don't really work for the tone of Ravenloft. I was genuinely hoping to be able to make some of these as spooky snacks for my fellow players, but unfortunately that wasn't in the cards. Also the black pudding pudding is just a chocolate mousse, with nothing connecting it to an actual black pudding.

So, is it worth buying? Honestly, yes it is. It's a neat NPC, a nice little set-piece, and a couple of minor plot hooks that could be a nice way to spend a session or two. But it's not Ravenloft. Put this in Faerun, in Greyhawk, in Mystara or even Ebberon, and it would be good. But not Ravenloft.

Wonderful product! The authors really went the extra mile with including all of the story content on top of the 'main course' which is, go figure, the recipes themselves. It's great because not only can they be used to enrich a story, but will honestly work as real food at the table. I suspect some of the recipes will be more utilized than others; Intellect Devourer Flambé calls for a cow, pig, or lamb brain. Another positive is that the cookbook utilizes awesome artwork. This is definitely one of those things you'll want to get if you love food and love Ravenloft!

Looking for some authentic Barovian meals to whip up at home. Look no further, now you can bring home those unforgettable bland flavors and smells. Your home will be filled with the scent of despair.

Rumor even has it that Granny may have helped write it and she may have put in her recipe for dream pastries.

Utterly charming, from the illustrations down to the flavour. I can't speak for the quality of the recipes, but I'm sure the proof will be in the pudding, and I can't blame poor old Antonia if I've ruined everything I ever cooked. It's a novel idea, well executed, and drowning in Ravenloft vibes. Recommended.
