I ran this module (and the rest of the trilogy) recently as standalone adventures. I used both the PDF and the FG module during the game and found that module detail, contents, maps, etc were well setup and helpful for the DM and players. This took about 6 hours for our group to play including all bonus sections.

Overall, this was a pretty good and interesting module. The assassination encounter was good fun and was such that it was easy to modify on the fly if you want to up the challenge some more.

The themed puzzle with the 4 floors was great, only let down by the final exit puzzle. The question posed did not fit the overall theme so it felt very out of place. Unfortunately I can't think of an alternative that would work though.

If you're using this as standalone, one of the rooms can provide information about your "employer" that you could use in something in the future.

The final battle was a nice challenge for my group forcing them to switch up their tactics a bit.

The premise for this module is confusing for anyone not familiar with the Season 2 Adventurer's League modules as multiple NPCs are re-introduced who show up there, but the task is clear enough. This module also takes place the night before the Red War so if your players will be playing in that adventure soon, it can be a good lead up to the epic. The module is very combat heavy as both but there are chances for exploration and role-playing as they navigate the dreams of a man tormented by a ghost.

I love this entire trilogy. I cannot say enough good things about it. My players loved it as well.

I liked this adventure very much, however I have to rate it as 4 stars because time-pressing environments and limiting a number of short rests and denying a long rest is so common in modern adventurers that it really becomes boring.

I do understand the desire to limit the resources the party has before the boss fight, however, there are far more original ways to introduce it other than "We're in a hurry! Go-go-go!".

The intro scene of Rastol Shan showing his true power shocked my players enough that they were nearly panicked. Narratively, this module is written very well and I would advise others both to play and DM it.

  • This is a Combat and Puzzle focused mod (although all the puzzles are optional objectives)
  • Combats were a little too easy, I upped all of them by one challenge tier, I also used all the for added challege adjustments without issue. I swapped the boss encounter's spells so they would have shield so they would not fold to a single ranged DPS character.
  • Puzzles were not as good as the previous mod, Palace of the Efreeti, but Palace was the gold standard, and this puzzle is still pretty great.
  • A lot of rewards require the players to meet certain prerequisites such as playing previous modules, which is a little annoying when you have random tables which haven't played any of them before.
  • My players cared not for any of the lore in the module, and did not even ask who Branislav and Dmitra were. I wonder if I should have dispensed the information anyway.
